Not so much on the artificial flowers trying to fake out real - but I do like dried arrangements with a few flowers stuck in for color. Or mostly leaves or ferns with flowers.
i don't mind artificial if they are the best of the best. but i hate it when they aren't kept clean and are covered with dust! those pictured look lovely.

I like this new Message Board. This is fun. I suffer from alergies, so I use faux flowers and plants, instead of real ones. The trick is to buy the ones that look very real, then put them in real looking planters. I keep mine very clean, because of my alergies.
If You See Someone Without A Smile, Give Them One Of Yours
I do not think high quality silk or faux florals and plants are tacky. The low end are.
They are not only for allergic people but are a good alternative if one doesn't want to be bothered with plants or real cut flowers.

I totally agree with Joyluck. Expensive silk flowers look wonderful if you keep them clean. There are fake orchids out there that look better than the real ones.

I agree with Joyluck. Faux is fine if they're good quality and not overdone. I have a mix of real plants and flowers, dried flowers, grass and branches (curly willow) and one small silk bouquet.
yes, my friend has a fake orchid that really had me fooled. i kept admiring it and she didn't tell me it wasn't real until i was getting ready to leave.

For me, it is either artificial plants or dead plants.
With that the only choices, I go for artificial. Yea, as mentioned, I go for the best quality I can find. Usually "silk" leaves and flowers, and not simply cheap molded plastic.
I hope that no one believes that dead plants, with brown leaves on the floor around them, are good decorations.

I think they can look great if you spend the money to get good ones. Some really good ones I have seen (that cost **) looked very realistic. I think they can collect a lot of dust so I would not use any in a place I could not get to them easily to clean them (ie., tops of wall-mounted kitchen cabinets, very tall armoires, etc. Nothing is uglier than dusty artificial ivy! I love the fact there is no watering, no bugs, no cats (mine) digging in dirt and/or eating of the plants. They just hav to be squeaky clean or I go nuts.

I'm with everyone - the good quality silk plants and flowers are beautiful in the right quantity and right arrangements.
For me though, it will probably always be real or nothing. I HATE to dust - particularly little fiddly bits. IMHO even very high quality silk plants just don't look good if they're dusty. If a plants can't survive a nice shower from time to time, they won't make it in my house.

All the silk florals or plants I've had have survived a quick shower. Easy way to clean them. I use a swiffer to dust them in between.

While very few real plants have ever lived that long while in my care, their leaves get dusty too. I faintly remember having to wipe those real leaves off, every once in a while.

Depends on the display.. i've seen some nice ones at several hundred dollars for artificial flowers! strands of plastic ivy off the kitchen cabs is pretty cheezy though. I do like dried eucalyptus, love the smell they bring.
