Since the other thread was closed, I thought I would continue, as I have a question.

The trend of needing double sinks- I don't get it.
We are never in the bathroom at the same time, both demanding sink time. I find it a waste of space... any other views?

Since there are only two of us living in our home unless we have overnite guests, DH always uses the main upstairs bath which is not far from our bedroom. So I happily have the ensuite all to myself! Big Grin When we have guests I do share with him so the guests can have use of the other bath all to themselves.

For us I don't see the point of having two sinks altho I'm sure there are some couples who need them. I just never want to go back to having a one or one and a half bath home ever again. I like my 3 1/2 baths a lot altho hardly every see one of them, it's only used for guests.

In an ideal world I'd have two ensuites off the master bedroom - his and mine.

What I consider a waste of space are oversized rooms no matter the purpose. Beyond a certain size I find large rooms cold and generally without charm no matter the decor. And at current building costs/methods they are an unbelievable waste of resources.

To begin with, our bathroom isn't big enough for two sinks. If it were, I wouldn't see the point. He's in the bathroom at 5 am and I'm in there somewhere around 7. Taking turns for the (one) bathroom works just fine at our house, even when we have kids home.

Well, I LOVE having two sinks in our master bath... and two mirrors! Hubs and I find ourselves getting ready at the same time on a lot of occasions, and not having to share is nice! Funnily enough, I've only lived in a couple places that didn't have doubles... Even two of the tiny little trailors my ex and I rented had two sinks in the bathroom.

We have 3 full baths in the house, one of which is attached to Hub's office, and until just recently, he used that bathroom a lot (he had an insurance route, and would get ready down there while getting ready to go on the road, leaving our bathroom for me). Now that he's had a career change, and is getting up and getting ready for work at 4-5 AM, he's using our master bath again (the other bath is also connected to the bedroom that our grands are currently occupying, so no noise on that end of the house that early in the AM, thank you!). The hall bath also has 2 sinks, which, if our two sons were on the same schedule, might be necessary, but... (when they were younger... when we first had the house built... one used the hall bath, the other the Jack and Jill between the office and the small bedroom) I'm thinking, when we can better afford it, and I finally get around to finishing that bath (we've had people moving in and out, in and out since WE moved in), we're going to replace the countertop, doing away with the 2nd sink. For now, it stores the kids tub toys... LOL!

I think it's a lot what you get used to... I would hate to have to go back to just one sink in the master, after having had two for so long... I'd hate to only have one bathroom again too. Call me spoiled. (*"*)

Countrybug- you have a point. My DH and I have 3 bathrooms in the house, and there are only 2 of us- so we each have our own.
Before we did, we had a house with only 1 bathroom, but even though we left the house at the same time daily, we never shared.

I think it's what you get used to. We only had one bathroom in the house I grew up in, it didn't have a shower either, it had a claw foot tub, toilet and pedestal sink. I miss that old bathroom it was big and had a huge linen closet. I can't stand the standard bathrooms today they have no character. We never had a problem living with one bathroom growing up two parents and three kids, thankfully we were all girls so if need be you were in the bathroom at the same time, my poor dad would be crossing his legs though waiting for us to get out lol!

The house we have now has two smallish bathrooms one upstairs and one on the main floor. For some reason and I have no clue why I always shower upstairs but blow-dry my hair in the first floor bathroom... DH does it all in the upstairs bathroom and we are never getting ready at the same time. The only one who uses the bathtub/shower on the first floor is the dog lol!

But as for two sinks I think it would be convenient if you both had to be getting ready at the same time. It's no big deal to me to have them or not, in our previous house both full bathrooms had double sinks. Being I'm not a fan of vanities I wasn't impressed with the bathrooms in our previous house, you can take me out of the house I grew up in but you'll never take the things I loved about it out of me! I plan on replacing the upstairs vanity with a pedestal sink after we build built in drawers and two glass doors cabinets above the drawers for storage in that bathroom.

I can't imagine NOT having two sinks. Well I can because we have just one in one of our houses. The other house has two and it's great. We always seem to be getting ready at the same time. Especially at bedtime.

I like 2 sinks. That way I don't have to concern myself with whether my spouse has left hair in the sink when I need to use it. Wish I had 2 sinks now. ~sigh~ Frown

Having the double sink has been good for us. DH gets ready first and there was always this dust of shaving remnants left on the sink. I always paitently wiped it up. Now that he has his own sink, he has been wiping it up. Apparently, he never noticed it at the time, but when he comes back later he wipes it up. Yay! If we ever go back to a single sink I hope he keeps cleaning up after himself.

My husband and I are always in the bathroom at the same time -- whether getting ready for work every morning or getting ready for some outing. I can't imagine having to share a sink and mirror. We prefer 2 sinks in one big bathroom. It's all what you get used to.
We like sharing a bathroom and use our morning-getting-ready-for-work time for conversation. Heaven knows, we don't have much time in the evening anymore with both of us going in different directions or working late, etc.

This is off topic............. what do people think of those bowl sinks? I can't understand why they are so popular. They look like they'd be hard to keep clean.

We have 2 vessel sinks in our bath.. but and most days we are getting ready close to the same time... but I like to come back in after he's finished to spritz the counter.. with it being glass .. I don't want to see shaving soap on it during the day...

lotshosta.. they are no different than cleaning any other sink.. because we have harder water ( sinks are copper) I wipe mine out in the morning... and I just wipe down the outside with a cleaner...
Audrey.. if we can just train then to fold towels the right way.. then our job is done...DH does fold his neatly on the towel rack ...but I like the fold to the outside..and e never notices this...

I really dislike bathrooms with two sinks. It is a waste of valuable space. Whenever I am bathing and getting ready to go out, I want my privacy. As long as it is possible, I want a bathroom that I can use by myself. Sounds a little selfish. However, having to share a bathroom with someone else causes a lot of conflict. I like to avoid it.

I very much enjoy having double sinks. Could I live without 2? Of course, but I am pleased to finally have 2 again after 7 years of having to share one tiny little vanity. It is inevitable that we are getting ready to go someplace at the same time or that we are getting ready to go to bed at the same time. We always wind up brushing our teeth at the same time and there have been many fights over the sink and how it is used! Of course, I always win! Big Grin Seriously, we have a nice size master bath and there is plenty of room for two sinks and extra 'vanity space' for me to apply make-up, dry my hair, etc. I have no problem sharing the bathroom with the man I have been married to and slept with for almost 20 years! Some don't like to and I respect their opinion.
