we are in the process of building a new home. My great room is 15x20 and is part of an open plan with my kithcn/dining area. The problem is on the right wall is a doorway to the master bedroom and on the left wall are 2 doorways to the laundry room and office area. the front wall calls for a set of french doors leading to the deck/patio area. If I put a 6ft ste of french doors I will not have an empty wall. (also on this wall there will be some feature window in the top of the cathedral ceiling. I guess i need ideas for door placement or anything else. Please help my contractor will be at a stand still by the end of the week if I don't make a decision.

Why do you want an empty wall? Do you need it for the TV?
Our last house was similar to yours (no wall space). I would recommend that you figure out roughly where your furniture (sofa, coffee tables) will go and have the electrician wire outlets in the floor. We did this in our last house. When our house was in the framing stage, I made lifesize templates (out of newspaper) of our major furniture pieces, and laid them out on the floor. I was then able to mark where the electrical needed to go. |
