I think the easiest start would be to decide what kind of style or theme.
What does your boy like?

If you live in close proximity to an art school, university or community college then you might be able to hire a student to do the mural. They'd be looking for a bit of money and would probably welcome the chance to add to their portfolio...and could help you decide as well.

If you have even a small amount of artistic talent then i would suggest that you purchase an inexpensive projector that will project a scene, possibly from a childrens book, on the wall. Simply trace the lines of the scene with a pencil then whip out the paints and go to town.

Good luck and happy designing

Does it have to be a full blown mural? This can be expensive. The idea of an art student is not bad, look on craigslist in your area if you want to spend the money.

Think about dressing the room up with a great paint scheme and adding stencil arts to the walls. Strategically placed and coordinated with the theme of the bedding and art or accessories, it is a very inexpensive way to do it yourself and create a good look.

It's only paint; you can cover it up and do something else later.

have you thought of using a printrf mural? I got a really cute one for GK play room. www.muralsuperstore.com . The one I bought is Hid'n treasure mushroom. It only took about an hour to hang it.
