Does anyone have ideas on how I can makeover my daughter's room? She will be turning 16 and she shares the 14x12 space with her eight year old sister. the eight year old has a loft bed and the 16 a full. One dresser for the teen and a cubbie for the little one they share a good sized closet but thier is no room. The teen would like a spot to do hair and nails and be on the computer, while the little sister would love to see her toys again as they are boxed up in the garage due to no room. Help me please!
If you have standard 8 foot ceilings then I would look for shelving (or connecting cubbies) that can be hung or safely stacked all the way up to near the ceiling for storage. Free up as much floor space as possible (by hanging things high), as that is the most usable by both girls. Ditto advice for the closet area. Off season clothes and items could be stored elsewhere.
The room is messy. We've simply give up hope of finding a style and solution to stuffed animals, toys, drum stuff, and music equipment. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thank you
This is the eight year old's side. She gets a few boxes for cloths and a toy box. This side is the darkest due to the offset window. This is just one room that is dark and not a great place to relax. We were hoping to make a play area under the loft but it is not working.The eight year old loves Billy the Extermintor from A&E. The teen playes the snare drum in band. Loves laying on her bed listening to music.
On the teens side I would build bookcases around the head of her bed. The shelves on the side--starting at bed side could be deeper to put baskets in (almost like a night stand) and also the top would be good for a lamp. Since you need more space, would this teen consider a twin bed? As for the younger child, if you put her loft bed down, you could build a wall of shelves above her bed. I just don't think there is enough room for a play space under her loft. If you kept it high and put a bookcase with a padded storage bench to sit on under it, might be a little play space but it looks like you need storage more. Good use of closet. Teens need a lot of space.
My suggestions: • Place the chest o’ drawers that are between the beds behind the bedroom room (where the mirror is currently located) • Use under the loft area space to have the teens make up & nail area: you can use the set up in the closet and move it under the loft bed. • You could also place the snare drum in a corner under the loft bed since it doesn’t take up much space • I would place the younger child’s toys and things in the closet and make that the play area so that it can be easily closed off to conceal the mess. • Cubbies on the wall and coordinating bedding would pull the room together. • A basket t put all the stuffed animals in with just their heads sticking out can sit on side of the bed where a night stand would go • A large peg or cork board to hold all the papers and medals would keep things more organized • I would put the full length mirror where the chest o’ drawers is to be closer to make up space and you can make also add hooks to the wall for jewelry and accessories • Most importantly, you will want to de-clutter and get rid of every and anything that they have out grown or do not use (this is the hardest part because its so difficult to part with our things but I guarantee that just de-cluttering will make all the difference in the world)
id opt for another loft bed which would give your teen a place she could set her pc, and a desk/hair center...dump all the linens, too...go for douvet covers over comforters...easy to wash and replace with a fitted sheet...beside what she chooses now most likely will go to college dorm with her...
if you can't change out the bed, at least elevate it (go to bbb for those, and use storage bins under the bed...
get a wood closet pole, paint room color and add teacup hooks for the stuffed animals to hang off of, with a hook in the ceiling...believe me it holds a ton of them...
