One word: COLOR! It's the least expensive way to liven up a boring brownish master bedroom.
Pull the sage color from your bedding and paint the walls one or two shades darker.
Choose a secondary color, let's say robin's egg blue. Use it for the ceiling. It's a very fresh, eco-chic color.
To de-countrify the Amish Oak furniture, choose accessories (accent pillows, lamps, mirrors) in robin's egg blue, chocolate, white and silver. Go easy on the accessories; you want clean lines, not clutter.
Forget adding more art. Hang a big honking framed mirror to bring sparkle and depth to your room. You don;t want to fill up every wall with stuff. Leave some bare space to let the eye rest. (BTW, Hobby Lobby has an awesome array of over-sized mirrors; just wait until they go on sale at 50 percent off -- which is about every 6 weeks or so.) Add a large handsome tropical houseplant such as a peace-lily or palm in a large fiberglass pot that looks like ceramic. No itty-bitty or fussy plants, please. And NO FAUX FOLIAGE.
Other sources of ideas and inspiration to modernize your masterbedroom: Pier1 and Target.

I agree and disagree with the previous poster. Your room sounds very tranquil and I can see where you may get bored with that. Think about what Karen says... pick 4 elements. Right now you only have one or two... the tan family and whatever metal you have in the room.
If you still like the Okeefe painting pick your colors out of that. You could paint the wall but if it were mine I would change the curtains. Then add another accent color with pillow or vase or another painting. Spread the color around the room.
You downplay the country furniture by picking other things that are not country in feel. Straight (not fluffy or too gathered) drapes hung from the ceiling on a simple rod. Bold accents with simple lines.
The colors you pick do not have to be jarring. You can go with pure white drapes and then one birghtish color from the painting... green, pink, blue, purple (she uses them a lot so I am guessing)
IMHO a blue ceiling looks contrived unless it is in a blue room or a childs room. And there are so many realistic looking fake plants I think they are acceptable as long as they fit the space and not allowed to look dirty,

Maybe you could make the room more eclectic by swapping/stealing furniture from other rooms. The bed and dressers are too big/expensive to change, but why not move the nightstands to another room and bring in side tables to use instead. Add an interesting non-amish chair or bench. Mix it up a little. Just be sure to vary several elements, otherwise it will just look like you have once piece that doesn't fit.

Can you post a picture of your room?
My rules to live by: If life gets hectic and chaotic, clean out closets. Purge often. Keep everything neutral, because we never know what our next house will be like. Embrace life to the fullest, take nothing for granted, and always remember what's REALLY important.
