My DD's husband has been offered a promotion---in L.A.At present they live in atlanta so this would be a move across country. Need some input from someone who may be familiar with both areas. Good or bad move? Such a different life style. What do you think? Any input as to pros and cons? Can you tell I am not too happy with the move? Only if they leave their 8 yr. old daughter with me! Hope to hear from someone with this experience.

Don't know how anyone can afford to live in L.A. Pros? The weather. Cons? You have to have a strong ego to survive the city (or else be so laid back nothing matters).

Where is the job located. LA is huge. There are great parts and bad parts and housing is incredibly expensive.

LA is a big area, it depends on what area they move to.

Pros: Incredible weather, the beaches, tons of restaurants, mountains nearby for skiing in the winter, great amusement parks, theatres, lots of museums, entertainment capital of the world, higher wages.

Cons: Traffic conjestion and higher home prices.

Consider it an adventure and new chapter in their lives. Be surprised, they might love it here. That is why so many people move to California, there are many reasons why!!

We lived in California for a year --- it definitely is a different life style, or at least was back in 1992-1993 when we lived there -- culture shock coming from the midwest. Long commutes, extremely high housing costs, and just a different lifestyle then we were used to. We treated it as a one year vacation and got out of there as soon as we could. I know there are a lot of Californians that love love love California, but to us it was not all it was hyped up to be.

Thanks for the response!!Guess its their decision but my gut feeling is "not the right move".Just don't want them to do wrong with the move especially with a sm. child in school. we'll see how it goes, they have been visiting there this wk. Due home tonite.

Is the job actually in LA. Many people say LA, but really mean suburb, it makes a big difference.
Personally, I would be hesitant to move to the City of Los Angeles. Is this a permanent move, is he getting a raise or location allowance? As said, LA is expensive, many people don't use the public schools. There are many good surrounding areas.
I love living close to LA, but have no desire to live in LA.
