We closed on Friday & are renting now-- and in no hurry to buy again. Many thanks to everyone for their help & concern. Best of luck to all who are trying to sell.

"timtam," So glad for you and the lucky Buyers who got such a beautiful home! Just wondering if you don't mind answering: how much did you end up selling for? (remember after your last post that you were considering a reduction) and who were the buyers, a family or couple? I was thinking that it was a perfect size for an older couple with no children! Congratulations!

    Thank you all so much!

We eventually sold for $154,000 "as-is" to a single young man of 25. We never met him, but we're told that he's very nice & very happy with his new home. We wish him all the best & hope he'll be very happy there!

I neglected to mention that was in 2001. You've done great.

I predict the National Association of Realtors will be contacting the HGTV staff to have this thread locked. Wink

I guess I've never really understood why anyone that could afford a house would want to rent and just throw all that money away. I'd much rather be in a smaller house on a smaller lot and own it than to just throw my money away or give to to someone else.

Its simple: right now our "house fund" is gaining value in the bank while houses are losing value.

As someone who is now renting after haing sold a home in December, sometimes there are a multitude of reasons. In my case, I have just relocated to a new state. There have been some changes with my employer such that I may be relocating again in just a few years. Before we learned of these changes, we were talking to a realtor and nothing I saw in the listings he sent us really met our needs. When we do buy, we want to buy what we want, not just what is available at the moment.
