How soon should I sign up to forward our mail? It says you get coupons right away (I'm going to do it on-line) We are moving the 21st (have U-Haul truck reserved) I plan on start the forwarding around the 18th so I can make sure that I'm not getting mail here. So should I go ahead and sign up, or wait until towards the end of next week?
Also, we get some mail for our church, should I just change the address at the bank (we get statements and for CCLI) and not change the rest and it will just get thrown out. or do I do a family change and then an individual change (or business change?) Thanks, Kristine

Go ahead and put in the change now - and you can have them start on the 18th.
We put in our change, and because the other house hadn't sold, we still monitored the other mailbox. I'm afraid that some of the stuff didn't get forwarded and would end up in the old box...USUALLY when the "regular" delivery person was off. We also got 1st class mail here for the previous owners despite the forwarding order they put in (the P.O. will only forward 1st class mail I believe). Fortunately, we kept in touch (minimally) with the previous owners and would send them mail that looked important.
A few months ago we got TWO identical drivers' licence renewal envelopes for their son (keep in mind, we've been here 2-1/2 years now). I contacted her, told her what they were, and she was stunned that he had never changed his license...but apparently their relationship with their son (her step-son) was pretty bad and she told me just to shred it! So I did.
But that's just my 2 cents!

I was a bit paranoid...waited 11 months for a sale, and was SOOOOO afraid that the buyers would back out...so I didn't turn it in until the day we signed the final papers...

Our postmaster tells me that it takes 8 days to process a change of address, temporary or permanent. It is easy to call the local postmaster and cancel the change if need be.

Start calling those organizations like magazines and banks and changing your address with them. Forwarded mail takes longer to receive. Most changes can be done on line as well.
We moved in January- a silly thing but something important to your kids is to reapply to any kid's birthday clubs that they get.(Toys R Us, Baskin Robbins etc.) Mine were disappointed when they didn't get the giftcard and free icecream cards. It won't be forwarded so you may not realize it until after their big day. HTH
Make sure you do a mail hold at your new address. I submitted mine 30 days in advance (like usps recommends) and my mail person didn't even look at the date, just immediately started forwarding the mail. When I called, they said "well no one actually does it 30 days in advance" and I said " I did!". Anyway, since we had our mail held at the other end it caught it all.
Thanks, I submitted the form today, we have a small post office, so I'm not too worried. We get possession Friday, so if anyone messes up, it won't be a big deal.
Thanks, Kristine
