DebiinFLBuying houses is not for sissies....
So, we're in our house, furniture arrived last Wednesday. House is fully painted, pool is still being repaired/worked on, LOTs of electrical work occuring, landscaping starts Wednesday, fence goes up the following week and the list just keeps growing. One of our neighbors told us that his lawn guy was coming today, so I'm going to run over and BEG him to mow our lawn. Boxes are everywhere and we're so tired we actually took yesterday off to do a little shopping and have lunch out. We have more damage to our stuff than we ever had in any move - not sure if it's because it was double handled due to needing to be stored, or if someone was just lame. Dogs seem to be adapting really well, but I really can't wait until the fence goes up..... It's going to take us a few weeks to get through everything. Is that normal, or am I just truly a slacker??? It sometimes seem so overwhelming... BUT - we have the house, we're in it, and we are slowly - but surely - moving forward.....

mamaspoonYou're not a slacker, just overwhelmed and fatigued!! Know you want it all done - yesterday- but Rome wasn't built in a day and it sounds like the worst is behind you. Take a deep breath and look at what's been accomplished so far. Also, I find it hard to function in my home when I have a lot of contractors in and out of my house. Don't know exactly where you are but here in Ft Myers the humidity has finally dropped, which so energizes me. Hang on, you're on the home stretch.

flboyGood job debinfl. It is all up hill fron now on. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your home more with every passing day and repair. Stay away fron shopping for your new home until you have some time to survey what you really want or need. I went crazy with prints on ALL the walls and I have started to tell relatives, take picture home with you, PLEASE!

DebiinFLFlboy - my issue is lamps because we had 4 damaged in the move, and it's kind of dark at night....

I'm trying to hold on until I get all the boxes open in case something pops up that I had forgotten about... I have a friend holding our art - not even going to go get it for a couple of weeks so we can get the furniture settled down.. The weather is nicer, which actually makes me want to sit out on the lanai and just relax. Tomorrow, they come to dig up my backyard to put in the planting beds and a few trees.. Then the fence, then the rescreening of the lanai, so I guess I have to get all the boxes unpacked so I can enjoy it when it's all ready.... Question for Florida residents - if you're getting new screening, do you get the regular lanai screening, or if the price isn't unreasonable, the "keep the no-see-ums" out screen? I'm thinking the latter, but just wondered if anyone had any experience with it....

flboyWe just had, just the roof of the lanai done and that was about $1100. It was a better grade screening but will not keep the no see-ums out. We wanted something that the da-- squirrels couldn't tear, as they run back and forth. The lanaii is a lot cleaner now because the screening was dissolving fine dust everywhere. Good luck.

zone9aladyI hated moving! The movers always broke something. You're right, it's not for the faint of heart. I always tried to put each box labeled for each room in that room and close the door. Then take it on one room at a time.
There is so much to do it is overwhelming. My saving grace was always a list, make a daily list, a weekly list or even a monthly list!

DebiinFLZone9lady - the issue isn't the boxes we packed, we actually get those, it's the many that the movers packed, and I think they got pleasure in making sure that searching for that top of the crockpot would force me to open every box there is.... I had a list, but lost the notebook.... Now I'm working on fence design, because it turned out what had been here with previous owners was extremely unpopular with neighbors, and I see the issues, so we're going to make some changes to make it better for the neighbors (have big back yard, so no real issue for us).... New lanai screen goes in next week - CAN'T WAIT!!!! My new landscaping in the back (the beginnings of the beds) have brought many neighbors over - I think they're just happy someone is working on the yard. Trees are gorgeous though, just spend my time moving hose from tree to tree...

. Love this place......

CJOI haven't been on lately...I, too, am enjoy beautiful Florida (over here on the east side). Sorry you have had damage to lots of your stuff.
Our house is started, but just barely. We were hoping to have it done by mid-March, but I have doubts. This week is glorious and no one is there working...oh, well...I refuse to be stressed...I will only enjoy this journey
