I think house-hunters and house-sellers would find this map really useful.

www.RichBlocksPoorBlocks.com

It's an interactive map where you type in your address, city, and/or state, then you see a color-coded map of your neighborhood's median income, and the median income of surrounding areas.

Here's an example map. It's Washington, D.C.

Question:
Is your area lower class, middle class, or upper class?

Choices:
Lower class
Middle class
Upper class

According to the results, my city includes all ranges (lower to uppper class) of our state's median household income.

I plugged in my street. My census tract is about 14% higher than the highest statewide average income...so we are solidly middle class. No more; no less.

Extremely inaccurate in our case. Not accurate for neighborhood, village or county.

This is one of the poorest counties in NY state, if not THE porest. actual average is about 30..if that according to this average is 40.

We live in a very rural area. I looked it up, it was right on the mark.

You can get the same information from your County's Property Appraiser's GIS Department house by house, and the Tax Assessor's office, which all this info probably came from.

It's a good app to save time and research.

This is by Census Tract, not by county.

it is STILL inaccurate.. for my census tract, my sister's tract, and the tracts of several other people who looked into it.

In each case they over estimated the incomes.

This information is taken from the Rural Justice Institute at Alfred University.

DebiinFl, I think it is directly from the 2010 U.S. Census ~ you know, the question that asks specifically: "What is the total annual household income for all residents at this address?"

I looked at my home town and it was, in generalities, accurate (as I remember).

Some was & some wasn't in my county. Not nearly as accurate as other sources!
