It's interesting to see the house in a development in Canada. The exterior is definitely different than homes in the States. I like the idea of making it different than the other homes. I wonder why she did away with the dining room to have a larger formal living room? The whites and creams are her signature but would be hard to keep clean for most families. The builder's budget for the kitchen was insane, I would have probably spent more in there. Although there is a mudroom, it doesn't have the space to hang and store things that a hallway closet would have provided. The show is definitely interesting.

Actually it's not. This is the typical higher-end sub-division with housing styles and elevations very common in the Northeast. Her show originates from Toronto, in the eastern part of Canada, near the US border. This style is pretty common in the US: way over-sized homes out of scale to the zero lot lines.
But that is how a lot of people live. Or, who have aspirations to do so. That's why it was a pretty smart idea for this season of SH to focus on personalizing and upgrading a home in a new subdivision.
All in all, I found the first three episodes to be serious eye candy and inspirational. Plus, the comedy team of Richardson & Smythe made me chuckle out loud, as usual.

Sarah didn't eliminate the DR, it's between the pdrm hall and the FR--off the entry across from the stairs. It open to both the entry and FR.
What was eliminated to make the LR larger was an odd space with no door....maybe for an office? The flipped pdrm was also in that area.
Oh, there is a hall closet you pass before the pdrm.
Sheetmoss, thanks so much for the link. If I lived in Toranto, I'd be thrilled with all the information about sources in this blog. We missed alot about the layout of the house by not seeing the first episode. Glad to hear that a Sarah's House 5 is under consideration.

Thanks for the link it makes more sense now. It's hard to watch a marathon and understand exactly what' s happening. I can't understand why this wasn't a weekly series. They have enough HH and HHI every night!

Absolutely loved this marathon. I don't understand why 4 episodes were ran back to back with little or no advertising. I understand HGTV less and less as seasons plod on. I wish shows like Sarah's House were on a different network.

I just read on another site that there are three additional episodes of Sarah's House 4 that HGTV is not broadcasting in the USA. I didn't think to write down the site, sorry. But if it's true, then I am even more confused by HGTV's treatment of Sarah. I think she is the real star of HGTV and I just don't see mid-day marathons for first run shows with virtually no advertising of the marathon as star treatment for Sarah or her fans.
Maybe because Sarah's designs and shows put the HGTV designers and shows to shame. I realize the circumstances are different...Sarah doesn't work with homeowners, but HGTV could be so much better than it is.

What is interesting about those three other episodes is that they are listed under the Sarah's House episode guide on HGTV but with no air dates. They are a Rec Room, Girl's Room and Dining Room. Does that mean that someday we will accidently find them on at 6:30 AM with no advertising?

Darn! I was wondering why she didn't do the dining room because I'm in the process of redoing my dining room and wanted some inspiration. Now I know it's just that HGTV doesn't want to show it to those of us in the USA. So frustrating!! My DVR captured the Rec Room but no Girls Room, no Dining Room.

There's a quick glimpse of the dining room when she does other rooms. It's very colorful. So many of the other rooms are completely neutral--white or gray. I find the shows interesting and wish they were spread out as a regular series. Don't know why HGTV bought the series if it didn't intend to advertise it.

Seriously agreed. She's one of the only shows I DVR and will even watch in re-runs and HGTV fails to run the entire series of shows AND crams them into 2 days? So sick of watching 4 hours of House Hunters--can't HGTV give Sarah's House a half hour or so once a week and include all the episodes? If not, please make them available to watch online.
I agree Charles, it is so hard to take yet another evening of HH or HHI--we don't watch much HGTV any more. Her show is interesting and although I wouldn't necessarily do her color schemes, I like to see how she pulls everything together. I like to see how she arranges furniture, etc. I like her interaction with Tommy.

Aychi, I think the whining comes from the old fashioned concept of consumer loyalty being somehow rewarded. Of course that would never be the case with T.V., but I do think that some of us of a certain age are stuck with nostalgic tendancies.Wishing the gas station attendant would still wipe your windsheild or department stores would hem your pants for free while you wait, are two bygone services I sometimes pine for.

Oh, Charles, I can remember when you sat on a stool in the dept store and a clerk brought box after box of stockings to you, broke the paper band holding each pair of stockings in place and then inserted her hand carefully into the stocking to show the color.
Same thing with gloves. You sat on a stool and the clerk helped you on with the gloves.
However we had no t.v. then and when we got it it was not in color. Certainly no programming like HGTV!
BTW we have a nearby full service gas station. They not only pump your gas (same prices as elsewhere) they also wipe off the windshields in the back and front.

Well, then those viewers will have to watch the shows at the day and time they air, or miss them. Like in the days before VCRs and DVRs. Or, they can check out Hulu online to see if there is streaming video available.
What do they want HGTV to do? Offer them shows on demand, to suit their individual schedules. I just don't get the point.
