I have watched on your shows that when you are on a limited budget and the kitchen cabinets are in good condition you opt to paint them. Exactly how is that done, can I DIY or should I call painters?

Remove and take a door (and possibly a drawer) into your local pro paint store. Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams as examples. (NOT just a paint department in another store)

They can best advise you on prep, primer and paint for a finish you can be proud of. Depending on your available time, patience and area to work on this project, this can help you decide (in your case) if it is feasible as a DIY or a pro painter job?
