I overheard one of the guides in this home telling a person when asked, that most people do sell these homes once they win them. If anything, they can't afford the taxes on the winnings or don't want to fool with it or the upkeep/expense of owning one. There seems to be no real shortage of Realtors waiting for the moment the winner is announced to hand their business cards to them, too.

I remember the guy from my home town in WV who was in a wheelchair, who won the Asheville NC Dream Home a few years back. Beautiful but expensive mountaintop home, etc. In a more local interview after he won he told them he would live in it for a short while, sell it, and take the money and build a much more modest home for himself in that relative same area because he liked it so much. I think that's what he wound up doing.

I'll toss out an idea for whoever wins this year's Green Home since most of you are not familiar with the metro Atlanta area: Atlanta has seen a HUGE increase in the movie making industry in the last few years due to State tax breaks given to the industry to film here. Several major movies have been filmed here and a couple that are about to hit theaters filmed here as well. Even such regular shows like the Vampire Diaries, Family Feud, etc. Anyway - I'm sure the rapidly growing list of stars who spend time here would be VERY interested in a designer-furnished, turnkey home, in a more secluded area, but still not super far from the studios that have popped up around here. Hmmmmmmmm. Might get more money out of a studio or star for it than if it were listed via the regular route. Wink

I always wondered what happen to the houses after they give them away. I don't think HGTV really wants us to know... lol

These homes are built with input form the advertisers. It is a win win situation. The products get out in view to the public, we get to enjoy the great and fun decorating and learn about what there is to see in that area of the country and for the winner, a choice to live there or if they can't, take the finanical package.

What a great opportunity. before a person enters they have nothing, afterward two great options Smile
