I REALLY love Design on a Dime and have been watching for a long time, $1000 designers and their wonderful creative work. No offense to the new young designers, but their work doesn't even compare and I am considering no longer watching... Anyone else feel that way or am I just crazy?
Have only seen 2 of the newer episodes. I just started a thread about a mis-named episode (British Colonial Bedroom)-- yes, one of the nNEW ones. People watch hgtv shows to become design-educated, not confused. As I watched I wondered why Casey was calling the design "British Colonial" when it clearly was not. We rely on the designers to know MORE than we do- to share their formal education and experience with us. The outcome of the project was not to my taste, but I can see where others may like it, but.... It was definitely not Brit Colonial. The second episode I watched was a patio re-do. My complaint about that so far is with the editing. Poor Casey's boobs were hanging out. I'm not prudish to cleavage, but the editor should have spared the poor girl what I feel is embarrassing angles and way to much breast. At one point she was crouched down and her knee was pressed firmly to her chest causing her boob to bulge out of her cami. Great for husbands watching with their wives, but not very flattering for Casey who is a professional designer filmed doing her work.
I will keep watching as I dvr all the shows and watch while I (ugh) fold laundry. I'll come back here with a review after I've watched for a bit.
I love the new episodes with Casey and find her episodes and aesthetic far superior to any other version of DOAD. Her rooms look expensive when we all know they are designed 'on a dime'. Whenever I see an episode with the Chicago team those rooms always end up looking cheap and sparse. I think Casey's episodes really stretch the dollar so that they can put together a room that will satisfy the owner and also be stylish. I recall watching an episode with the Chicago team and they were turning a basement into a movie viewing room for the family. They actually purchased old jewelry cases and put bottled water and boxes of candy in them for the reveal and then stood next to them with these stupid smiles on their face as they explained to the home owner how they can make them into their own snack shop. Really? Seriously? That is to date the dumbest thing I'd ever seen and not remotely realistic.

Lola, I agree that Casey does a really good job, but she has more budget to spend than the old Design on a Dime Show. They probably did the best they could with the limited amount they had to spend. I am glad that Casey's budget is more in line with today's costs.

If you don't get hgtv yet, contact your cable company and see if they have a package deal for you including, I imagine, foodtv and other related channels. Where did Design on a Dime go? Just when you think you can get to know new talent and appreciate their styles, they're ripped from under your feet. Casey is a great designer but she's not on the air anymore. Any plans to being her back? Network honchos: Listen to the people!!!
