Short little slide show from This Old House Magazine on what to fix and what to leave for the new owner.

My take on this, repair what is broken, freshen up the spaces, declutter (not mentioned here) but don't put major bucks into remodeling to sell.

Thoughts?

General Disclaimer

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You are correct, I don't know who started the rumor that if you over update, you will get more money for your home.
Yes, they are correct. deal with clutter, fresh paint, if you need to change the flooring then, like like they say, fix what is broken.
Many TV programs have erroneously pushed the envelope on this one. but not all buyers are what you see on these "irealistic" TV programs.
