If it isn't hard enuf to keep a home ship/shape, we are STill dealing with the yellow pollen, andddddd after DH cleaned windows the birds have done their number on several, the carpenter bees are out and some huge black ants. These are all common for here in the country, but oh what a pain.

Prob a good thing we aren't having showings; none for about 3 weeks!!!!!!!!

Oh man - you can't catch a break.... I had carpenter bees, and I found the little hole they had dug in my pergola, and instead of filling it and painting it (which I had done, and they just dug another one) - I filled it with clear caulk. They kept trying to fly in and they would hit it and bounce off. Not sure if that is what did it, but they went away... OK, maybe it was just a little fun for me.... And the birds, just hose those suckers down - they'll look great.... I don't have big black ants, I have little ones, and my realtor didn't like all my ant traps, said it wouldn't show well - go figure.... Cool

You know - that stuff is good, I've used it before.... I did like the clear caulk thing though - they would hit that clear caulk, and you could see they were very puzzled - kept trying to fly in... I know, I'm sick..... Big Grin

haha i USED TO KNOW AN OLD BAT! Big Grin

Geeez, I think if I was showing a house and saw a bat I would freak. Sorry about all your critter problems. As least you are there to stay on top of things.

Try showing foreclosures and open a lockbox and discovering big wasp nests over your head-whoa!! I was showing a foreclosure the other day in an upscale condo community and there were mud dobbers INSIDE up along the ceilings. IIICK! Funny thing - the condo sold
before I could get back to my office to write the offer!!

CJO, Yes, it does sound like everything is working against you right now! Frown

And, yes, living in the country also requires being able to put up with some of those things! Look at it this way, no way someone can complain that they weren't warned about the ants, bees, bats, pollen and birds! Roll Eyes

But, somebody is going to love your lakefront house on 5 acres - just need to fine-tune your listing to find the market that is willing to put up with the disadvantages in order to gain the wonderful setting and life style such a place offers. Cool

Mice are tough.... The only good news (I used to live on a horse farm, so this was important to me....) - if you have mice, you don't have rats - they don't co-exist..... Just trying to look on the bright side....... Smile

Ha...well, that must be true; never have seen a rat here. Must have just been one mouse; none in trap this a.m.

WRT bugs, our sellers report that nothing works better than bug bo* mbs. Most importantly, they require use only once per season and nothing is visible thereafter - neither bugs nor ant tr* aps, etc.

Obviously, it's important to follow the instructions and check the labels WRT ventilation and se* gregating dishware, etc. Sellers feelings about the use of pest *icides and/or chem *icals matters, too.

JMHO, as usual.

The LAtest creatures are hornets!!!!!!! Under the deck stairs a hornet's nest just started; about the size of a grapefruit. DH sprayed it with the deck cleaner he had sitting there and it dissolved the whole thing!

Ok...what next?!???!!! :O

CJO, No problem - I have the solution! We have many hornets/wasps and such here. Just tell your DH (or do it yourself) to go down to your nearest Ace True Value Store or, even, a brand name grocery store like Fred Meyer or Albertsons.

Buy a product in a can called "Hot-Shot: Wasp & Hornet Spray." Use it in the cool of the morning when they aren't flying yet - very easy to do since it has a range of over 25 feet! Give it a try and see how it works...

Let us know...
