I am not sure where this topic actualy goes but I need some suggestions. We just put up an Inset above ground pool 4ftx18ft vinyl. We live in Georgia and the company said if our wheather does not get to 0 degress we would not have to take it down. It has a very nice cover. Is there a possibility that some sort of small deck or a least a walk area that could be built that goes to the ladder and just a small area around the pool? We don't want to go all away around the pool. Open to any suggestions and has anyone done this ?
Thanks a bunch Gigisouthernlivingconsultant

I found information on the sister site HGTVPro and to get an idea of what you may be faced with you can ck >>>here<<< It could be a start. Although I would seek professional help Eek

Good luck with your decking job and do a cannon ball for this consultant! they should get paid alot more don't ya think? Wink

Home Depot has books and free handouts about decks and pools. My DSS and family built exactly what you want using their plans. See if you can catch a free clinic and ask all kinds of questions or visit their website.

My son built a deck at his home in Illinois. I know he has to treat it annually because of the severe weather.

We better find Don and D2, I know they would do a canonball in the pool for you BL.

About deck; we live in Michigan, and we use oil based stain, it has to be done every 2 years or so, but I like the look.

A friend of mine had that "fake" wood; plastic, and even though I thought it was going to be ugly, I really like it now, and NO MAINT!!! She mops it...lol

(((BL)))- It is good to see your southern hospitality shining!

Welcome gigisouthernlivingconsultant!
Whew!! I think I'll shorten your name to gigi! Smile That is much easier to type!

I think that a deck surround is a great idea and will make the pool more usable. How high above ground does the pool set?
I would research composite wood products. These are materials which are a mixture of recyled plastic and wood materials. They are more expensive in general than 100% real wood but they should last much longer and not require the maintenance that real wood will require...especially surrounding a pool of water.
I would also consult some contractors. Many will give you free estimates on what it will cost you to have them build it.
Good Luck

BL! Nice TShirt! Big Grin....Sterling has a new birdie for her avi....always fun to watch her change her wings out!

Think I would prefer a recycled no maintance deck....LOL all I have is an ol' cement one....sweeps off well anyhow...guess the only damage it has incured was when DH dug out an arborvitae and knicked off a huge hunk on the corner....OOPS...need to plant something large there to cosmetically draw the eye away from that spot.... Roll Eyes

Perhaps the picket line needs to begin anew.... Cool

Hello BL, glad you are recovering.
I really like decks, would like to have one some day. I prsently have a cement Patio on one siad eof my home and a very small one by the sliding doors. Here in Calfirona, we tend to get cracks in cement due to earth shifting.

Desks look so much nier.

It was done 14 years ago when my house was built and probably partly due to him. Out here, earthquakes also damage our cement. I even have some samll cracks in the garage which is cement slab. I always laugh that my house is a home de po t home.
