My family and I are getting ready to start building our home and we are interested in being as green as possible. Any tips or suggestions?

Welcome, MC,
Plan on a 35-40% premium on green versus standard construction. The green home this year was about $550K versus $350K for standard in that area.
Use the, "Find" above and put in all kinds of key words, i.e. CONSTRUCTION and check over the latest message board comments.
A lot of good information has come across these pages. Then, get back to the message board with specifics. The information already covered will take you quite a while to review. As you can see, the MB activity is at a low ebb now with summer but by November things will be pretty active. Dream Home activity starts Jan. 1 and alot of green is weaving its way into the topics; the new Green Home sweepstakes comes in after the Dream Home sweepstakes.
Best, TangoW

There are lots of ways to build green, including using fewer resources (modifying the construction of the frame), and to use more sustainable and renewable materials. Green building is getting more and more popular, which means that there are more places to buy greener materials.

Also, look into government programs in your area that may be helping homeowners choose and fund greener options for their homes. (Especially solar.)
