Before the Green movement it was unclear to me what options were available for an environmentally friendly home. When I began to look through the site and look over the photos, I was amazed. The house does not lack anything, the style is impeccable and promotes energy savings, and is pro environment. This dedication is an absolute tribute to HGTV and the motto "it all starts at home". Tradition is like a Green epicenter for others to learn. The layout of grocery and retail stores being convenient for walking. HGTV, the sponsors and Tradition should be proud of this home and the example to the rest of us. Kudos to all! Michele Dowd

I think its wonderful too. And it promotes education and awareness, one of their goals.

And its a bit expensive but you get a lot of savings in the long run! Smile

You are right Amyart--the Green Home promotes all of the best--the ideal. It is not what most can afford, but it has gotten a lot of people's attention--mine included--and win or not, I am thinking more green all the time! Eek

We do not know what our future holds, but if we continue to waste our resources, we will fall. The reason 'Go Green' is so expensive is because -simply- supply and demand. With the price of gas going through the roof, it is my hope that 'going green' becomes the norm. As a teacher, I know how critical it is to conserve. I see it in the faces of my students everyday. Their future depends on our ability to guide their choices and show them the importance of conserving. I hope that through this sweepstakes, we not only see the importance of going green, but we start to live it, as a society. Then, we will see a difference in the price of going green.

I think that this is the best home HGTV has ever built. The Dream Home in Colorado being second. I love all the green features and the practicality of the home. Fits me perfectly! Smile

So in a way, the green home is a gift - a prize to each and every one of us Marygoinggreen. And to our children.

CCHAPPY,

Such a TRUE Statement! I had a student recall one of the 1st lessons I gave my class. How to blow their nose. I was tired of seeing one blow and throw. I taught them how they shouldn't be wasteful with a simple product of Kleenex. And parents wonder why their children are always running out.

Then, I had a problem with a leaky sink in a classroom. Well...if you can't get the problem fixed immediately, I made a science and math lesson out of it. We measured the quantity of H2O that was going down the drain as we waited for the repair. My goodness how quickly things can get repaired when FACTS are presented.

There are schools that do a FANTASTIC job being green. It's great to see it happening. One school that comes to mind, picks up the paper to be recycled from each classroom. I can't say it's happening and EVERY school; but, it does happen in some. For the children...that is their LEARNING society...and it CAN be tied into the curriculum. Stretch those imaginations (students & teachers).

OK...off my soapbox. LOVE this GH and what message is being taught! TY, HGTV.
