I wonder if building "Green from the Ground up" would also include not building a house on stilts in the sand in a hurricane zone?

so every other "Hurricane Season" the house and everything in is guaranteed to get washed out to sea. I don't see that as good use of materials - green or otherwise.

Many houses are built this way, so is it wrong for me to think it's a waste of materials?

In Atlanta, they keep right on building houses along Peachtree Creek which floods in a heavy dew. Greed knows no bounds. The people I feel sorry for are the ones buying these homes without knowing they flood.

true, a homeowner can miss a lot when buying a new house but there are places they can research flood zones. I checked out quite a bit before i looked in my new neighborhood. I have not purchased over prices flood or earthquake insurance but if it floods near me due to levy breaks or other tragedy, then pretty much most of central CA will be swimmin' wit da fishes.

I know of a green building product that is Miami Dade certified and is also used in earthquake zones. You can also use this in flood zones or very moist areas as it doesn't mold or rot. So if the house were to flood, it wouldn't need to be torn down or totally gutted.
