Hey all of you tech-savvy greenies, I am interested in using wind power as an alternative energy source for my home here in the Pacific Northwest (because obviously sun is out of the question!). Although I have googled it, I can't find much about residential wind mill type applications. Thanks for your help.

Try going to NAWS. Northern Arizona Wind and Sun. That's where we got all our off grid set up. They were very helpful. We are doing solar and wind(for back up). We went with the smaller wind generator and will buy another. You can get 2 smaller ones for about the price of 1 big one but we don't need much wind for the smaller one to run. It only needs 6mph. We got a Whisper Air Breeze. The smaller ones are also easier to handle and maintain. JMO.

What about something that doesn't require a 30+ft. tower? I live in town and only want something to keep my fridge running without a gas motor when the power goes off. I'm not trying to supply the whole town.

I am not sure what they are called but you can get a wind mill/generator that is tubular and will catch wind from any direction. I'm putting one in my new house. Sorry again I can't remember the name of the company.

I hope that everyone here continues to post feedback. I am interested in learning more about the outcomes with the windmills

OH NO, looks like I no longer have the URL to the one I liked best Frown

50laine, they have to be tall enough so things around them don't interfere with wind flow.

charisma30, please post what you are using for your new house.

Cool topic....I have a small backyard with electrical wires running across it and a huge garage which limits space....I'll just bet there are some restrictions on placement of those windmills....wonder if your electric company can give you any insights or advice? Wink

If the wind is not blowing I wonder how long the store is for energy to power a fridge?

Thanks to all for the links of reading.... Big Grin
