I'm working with a builder on a big spec house that has photovotaics. This morning the power company changed the regular meter to a net metering type. By 2PM the meter had gone from 100000 to 99998. The meter has a multiplier of 40 built in so we had sent back to the power company between 40 and 80 kilowatt hours!

I'm not sure the people looking to buy a four million dollar house care too much about the savings, but some will certainly like the technology.

Chuck,
These posts are always interesting.
The photovoltaic assembly is noteworthy in exorbitant purchase price also. Most green applications with techy complexities are a long term investment philosophy. My solar took over ten break-even years, then had to have major repairs. By then, repair versus new tech solar meant scrapping the old.

Tango - exorbitant prices are relative to who is paying them. Tax incentives and power company incentives take care of over half the installed cost of the system.

The collecters and inverters have a twenty five year performance warranty; you may have been in way too soon with yours.

I understand you can get a new car now that gets over 15 miles per gallon now - isn't progress great?

Chuck, if one takes that vehicle to the percentages game, fifteen miles per gallon sometimes means a thirty percent increase. Smile
I love green...even drove numerous green-colored (t-i-c), stingy-on-energy cars, the first a '54 VW fifty-three years ago. Big Grin
The beauty of this message board is hearing from folks like you who are interested, supportive, wise about purchasing and using green.
Perhaps the bigger issue is that green is not the cheaper way to go, yet? Americans are working on that.
This is a very competitive country, not wanting to slow down. The current recession worldwide is helping balance things a bit, maybe, since everyone is involved.
