We have a steel front door that was "stainable" when we purchased it. Now years later, the stain finish has faded and needs a new look. We've looked into refinishing it and found that to not be a good option. We've painted the outside to a dark hunter green to match the storm door that we already have. Now my problem is on the interior side. Our walls in the foyer are a cream color and we have stained oak trim and woodwork. The two rooms attached to the foyer area include the living room that is currently gold and the kitchen area that matches the foyer cream with the dinette area a rust color. I don't currently have plans to repaint the rooms, but don't want to have to change the door color in the future if I decide to get rid of the gold or rust.
Paint the door the cream wall color.
I either choose to do it this way, door and wall color the same, or paint the door the same color as the painted trim.
Ditto the previous advice.
