Is Anyone here familiar with Pratt and LAmbert paints. I would like your opinion on the colours I have choosen for my new house.
Master Bed- P&L Ever Classic---standard light grey carpeting and dark wood furniture, white bedding Ensuite-either P&L Windham--- shiny white tile with greyish, bluish marbling, natural maple veneer cabinet....can be persuaded to paint it out. Main Bath P&L Minnow, the same tiling and cabinets as above Guest Room Ben Moore P& L Whale, Putty or Ventana. The furniture is creamy warm white, bedding is white with an outisde 4 inch border of light limey green. Carpets a standard light grey Upper hall and Upper portion of Living room wall--P&L Feather Grey . The upper hall has light grey carpet. The Living room has 18 feet celings and is open to above. There is a chair rail at about 9 feet??? Lower section of Living room wall and lower hall Silver Mink or Gossamer. Flooring is brown oak hardwood. Sofa is a Khaki/tan colour Powder Room P&L Cobbler Brown or Deep Taupe Kitchen & family Room---Ralph L. Chatsworth Blue and P&L Shadow Beige. The cabinets are a natural maple, counter blue, floors are brown oak. Also, if it is not possible to paint the kitchen in the navy because of the bulk heads, I need one colour suggestion that would not be too light with the maple counters but would be livable in the family room. Dining room--??? Help me choose a colour Office--???? Help me choose a colour So what do you think??? Is it looking OK? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions |

Hi, welcome to the boards! Wow, a very sophisticated palette! It sounds great but I have a couple of quibbles. I love all the rich grays you're using, but they're all about the same value of gray. There will be no contrast so no one color will sing. No dynamics, if you catch my drift (using a musical metaphor). All very monotone.
The living room with the chair rail -- this is a chance to use two colors that will ground the space...kind of like this: Brown_with_gray Though yours sounds like it's being visually cut in half -- these things work better if they're 1/3 - 2/3 or even 1/4 - 3/4 proportions. I like the idea of the deep navy blue on the bulkheads and it will certainly make the maple cabs sing! See -- that's contrast. As far as the dining room goes, I think a warm cognac color would be lovely, close to your navy kitchen -- something like P&L's Arizona 2084. But really, I would look to my china for the color. Picking up a color in the china that isn't the dominant color in the china would be a great place to start. The office -- I'd probably go with one of the guest room colors that you rejected. (And I'd probably choose a shade two or three lighter on the same strip for the guest room. -- I still want some contrast. So Gray Moire, instead of Whale. Sea Hawk, instead of Putty.) But I think you have a great eye for color. Sounds elegant. |

Thanks for your response Casey. What you say about no dynamics is exactly what I was afraid of.
I have a couple of questions about what you said. I like the Arizona for the dining room, but do you think it's too warm for what I have going on now. I don't actually have that paint chip. I will pick it up so I can see how it reads with he others. What do you think about putting an deep eggplant type of colour in there. I currently don't have china, well I do but we use it as everyday dinnerware. It's white with a silver ring. I'm also a little confused about what you are suggesting for the guest room and office. Do you mean either use Whale for office and Gray Moire for the guest room or Putty for the Office and Sea Hawk for the guest room? Or do you mean use Sea Hawk or Gray Moire and then choose another colour on the same strip??? One final thing. The living Room with the chair rail, you posted a pick of Grey and Brown and I though my colour combination is quite simialr to that already. Do you think it needs more contrast? Suggestions. Thanks again. i really appreicate it |

I'm actually loving cognac with charcoal gray so I'd think it would be gorgeous. Yes, I do like deep eggplant for a dining room.
And how did I know you were going to say your china is white with a silver ring? Elegant and simple which seems to be your style. hee. Yep, (sorry I'm less than clear today -- I'm on painkillers cuz I pulled my calf muscles Sunday and I'm as bad as Paula Abdul today), the lighter color for the guest room and the deeper color for the office (or vice-versa). No, I just posted that so you could see how they've done the proportions of the room with the two tones. Your room sounds half-and-half proportion-wise? That wasn't about the color combo at all which sounds great to me. You like Sarah Richardson, non? sorry I'm so incoherent. I'm usually more mentally organized. |

LOL..loving your Paula Abdul reference. I didn't get to see it last night but heard so much about it I had to youtube it
Thanks for claifying for me. I really do like the elegant and simple look but still comfortable and relaxed. And yes I LOVE Sarah Richardson. How can you tell form just the paint colours, you're very good! I too am loving the way the colours look with each other, I just don't want it to be to boring and one dimensional. Maybe finding the right colour to accent with will be the key. |

You're going with so many deep neutrals, you need to find something that really lights it all up. White's a good start -- I'm also seeing crystal, gilt (perhaps antiqued silver), and all-round richness. Williams-Sonoma Home does this in their home catalog...and Ralph Lauren's incredibley beautiful videos of his home collection which can be watched at
www.ralphlaurenhome.com oh, yeah. watch those videos. Everything's quiet but elegant. Have you ever checked out some of the design blogs like www.absolutelybeautifulthings.blogspot.com ?? She's into color (and a lot of white) but she's got a very fresh look. And I really like the Cote de Texas by my fellow Houstonian: www.cotedetexas.blogspot.com You're Canadian, non? |

Thanks once again Casey. Those links are great for inspiration. Just wish I had tonnes of cash laying around to do my house up like that
BTW--Yes, I'm Canadain and you're very astute. |

I like Canadians.
But it is cold there. When I visited Calgary, it was -17. This little Texan couldn't believe how cold the air was to breathe. |

Casey do you have a trim colour recomendation for the colours I have choosen. It can be either Pratt and Lambert, Benjamin Moore or Sherwin.
Thanks |

Two ways you could go...cool which would be something like P&L's Seed Pearl. Or warm, like Indian Ivory (again P&L).
True white? BenM's Cloud White CC-967...hmmm, wait, those aren't the Canadian numbers...let's see...CC-40 for the Canadians. |

Thanks Casey I'll have a look at those suggestions.
