Open floor plan/kitchen cabinets and media console Sign In/Join
Currently I'm in the process of having my home built and it is getting time to decide on kitchen cabinet colors. I have been torn between the antique white with glaze or nutty alder wood with a dark brown stain. My floor plan is open where the kitchen and living room is one big room, and a kitchen island/high raised bar top seperates the room. What I need help with is if I do antique white cabinets with glaze what color should I have my media console, or if I do the dark brown stain then what color should I do my media console. I'm afraid if I do the dark brown stain in the kitchen and also a stain on the media console it will make the big room feel smaller and encolsed. Any help would be great.

If you actually use your kitchen, then white cabinets are going to get dirty, and need cleaning quite often.

Stain comes in varieties of shades. Instead of dark, go with several medium shades. Stain the lower cabinets one medium shade to anchor the kitchen. One shade lighter on your media console, and one shade lighter again, on the upper kitchen cabinets. Everything will compliment each other, not look matchy-matchy, and not make the rooms look smaller.
