I am having a tufted victorian settee with a carved ornate wood border re-upholstered. Since this is a fairly expensive project, I only have "one shot" to get the fabric color right.

The settee is going to be going in my living room. The room is a dark emerald/forest green. The couch on the opposing wall is a dark purple velvet. The accent colors in the room are gold and white. There are also some dark wood pieces, floral paintings, a brass & crystal chandelier, and black and white photos.

So.... what color do I do this settee in? It's going to be tufted, and I prefer the look of velvet (but AM open to non-velvet suggestions).

Here are my thoughts:
* A lighter purple (lavendar).
It would match the walls and the other couch, but it would be kind of boring given that I have a purple couch.

* Gold
I've almost ruled this out because it looks either too yellow or too brown.

* White
This is my true preference, but I have a young child and a giant dog . . . enough said.

* A light mint green
I love this color fabric (velvet), but I can't figure out at all if it would match the room. If anyone has advice regarding this color, that would be a huge help. (Here's an example of the color: https://okl2.scene7.com/is/ima...58_Image_1?$product$

*Light grey?

Any other ideas? I'm obviously struggling.

Much depends on the natural and artifical lighting in this space. Contrast to the walls is an issue as is too many dark furnishings. If this space is lacking in print interest, perhaps a stripe or paisley echoing some or most of the colors present will not only unify your scheme, but afford flexibility should you tire of the dark walls. Other options include another purple sofa even if the style of the piece differs tho my personal preference leans toward a light green or the gold present to lighten the space. White sounds too stark a contrast. If opting for a light color purchase pet throws to protect the seat, back and arms of your velvet furniture. These are washable and can be easily removed when entertaining. A quick google should produce this item.

Your room sounds a bit dark to me right now. Perhaps that color you really like but are afraid to consider, off-white, is your best bet.
