Our house was built in 2010 with a very standard, plain white door with two little tiny windows up at the top that literally do nothing for anyone except my 6'5" tall husband (who can actually see out through them). They don't even serve any purpose by letting extra light into the room. Well, we just got orders (military) and we have to put our house up for sale. We're installing a 9-light window pane into the door. What color should we paint the door to make the house stand out? We have a light green siding and white trim.
I want the door to be inviting and different than all the other cookie cutter homes in our neighborhood...
Thanks so much!! I am completely lost on color!

Star, the best idea may be to consult your local realtor for the most popular colors/best sellers in your area. Although I understand your aversion to cookie-cutter looks, if that's what sells, I'd happily go with it.
Vivid reds and maroons have been or were previously popular in many areas. Reds, however, can sometimes appear too Christmas-ey when paired with green homes. If your realtor isn't up on the current colors in your area, you might ask if another realtor in his/her office also stages and can assist you. Only one chance to make that first impression via curb appeal -
Good luck with your move and next duty station. Most importantly, take care. It's all JMHO.This message has been edited. Last edited by: BearCat49,

I might take some photos of the front of your home on a sunny day and an overcast one and take them into a paint store for some suggestions/advice also. What color is your roof? Sometimes this shows in a front view, and you might find a nice hue that would blend with it.
A color/tone that looks classic but is different from your siding and trim, but still blends in without "jumping off the porch" at you, would probably be a good choice.

I too need to know about your roof color. I hope you say black because a shiny patent leather looking black front door would certainly stand out with the light green siding, however I truly cannot say it's right for you with a lack of information.

I would obtain several color suggestions from either your realtor or stager and then consider the other factors, including light exposure, base color, roof, landscaping, etc.
I'd select a vivid tone of the suggested color to stand out for curb appeal purposes. Definitely go with what sells in your area.
Best to you -

It is difficult to suggest without seeing you homes facade. I agree that your roof color should be a consideration. Factor too the sun exposure impacting your front door or lack thereof. If you take a drive around your area and observe houses with similar color scheme note what color they selected for their doors. With a light green facade navy may be an option if the door gets ample sunlight. If the door is in the shadow due to trees or overhang, then a brighter color is wise. I might suggest that you bring chips home to view on your front door over the course of several days to see how lighting impacts them. Perhaps a deep maroon/burgundy or plum/purple might be a memorable compliment to your house exterior.
