I've had white for Years and it's time for a change but color scares me. I'm not good at picking it out!
#1 south end of lv. rm. gets lots of sun light.

So the rug's new? Sounds like the easiest solution is for you to use that as your color inspiration.

If you hope to stay safe with your initial foray into color, you could paint the walls beige to coordinate with the rug and possibly use one of the other colors for an accent wall.

WRT your window coverings, they're dating the room, IMHO. I would remove the verticals and curtains. You might consider interior mount, upgraded horizontal blinds plus floor to ceiling panels. Another option to enhance the window's size: hang dummy panels wider than the actual window. (BTW, dummy panels would also save you **$, assuming the blinds are sufficient for privacy.)

It's not absolutely necessary to select the exact rug to enhance the home's flow. As long as they coordinate, you're fine. You can also use coordinating paint, i.e. from the same paint chip/family or other colors, e.g. selecting one unifying accent color.

WRT the sunlight and the other section of the room, I wouldn't hesitate to adjust the paint color up or down a notch, if necessary, when the wall changes. You'll want to pick up and test several paint samples in the room's various zones, checking them in natural light and at various times of the day.

If you can carry a small sample of runner from the rug to the paint store, they'll color match it for you, BTW.

Incidentally, it may be my screen shot but you may want to slipcover your furniture - the colors appear dissimilar. How about a white or other neutral? That way, they'd be consistent.

It's all JMHO. Good Luck!

I am having a tough time getting on these boards. It keeps flashing and saying "errors on page" so I couldn't get back to tell you that I really think you should consider the grey that is in your carpet.
If you want to go a bit bolder than Sidewalk Grey, go with Cinder or any grey that veers toward the blue rather than yellow.

Sorry if I went a little farther than merely your paint color, silly bird. I naturally checked out your curtains and furniture to consider a color for the room. BTW, if you do plan to replace the furniture, because those are investment pieces (****), you might consider neutrals. That way, if you update again in the future, you'll save **$ by simply changing other items, e.g. pillows, paint color, other accessories or window coverings.

WRT the specific paint color, if you're using the rug as an inspiration item, I would purchase a small runner, take it along to the paint counter and ask my paint vendor of choice to match the color.

Good Luck!

Not to worry. I'm always open for suggestions. I don't have a show home like a lot of you here. I really admire those of you who have a talent for design and color.
Not going to be replacing funiture for a while.
May be selling not sure about that either!!
Thank you!

Any time, silly bird. We all enjoy helping posters. You can take what you need and leave the rest!

If you decide to sell, I'm sure many of the regulars will be happy to offer staging tips, if you need any. In the meantime, good luck with your painting project. We'd all love to see your after photos, BTW.

Take care -
