There was a house for sale in the area with these cabinets, heres a picture. It looks like they painted it a white/light grey oil based and went over with an oil based stain possibly with a rag? Any advice is appreciated!

I don't know for sure, but just a thought: could it be that a glaze was used? Maybe a clear glaze with brown paint added? (You could probably use a water-based glaze/paint over the oil-based paint since the two won't mix.)The treatment on the cabinets looks to be the same color as the wall color in the adjoining room.

I didnt think about that, I actually made an offer on this house, but they countered it so we found a better place for the money instead. I personally saw the kitchen up close but I dont remember if they seemed real gloss like and the pictures dont really do justice. Thanks for the advice though!
