I have a almost 2 year old girl and almost 3 year old boy who share a room. I am having trouble of thinking of what color to do the bedroom. I have a rug picked out and it has the colors pink, blue, yellow, brown and sliver in it. I was going to do pink and blue but dont want it to look like its a split room. Please help.
Thinking about the colors of the rug, I would probably select a silvery grey as a neutral for the walls. (Yellow's fairly popular now but it's a tough color to work with, IMHO.) To make it a little more fun but still sophisticated, how about painting 2 stripes around the room (fairly wide) in say, medium blue and a taupey brown, i.e. brown with some grey in it? Don't know if this is a long-term home for you but that would either allow the kids to grow into it or provide for another use.
Then, since those are all fairly neutral colors, why not set-up individual spaces (w/fabrics and accessories or even painted headboards) for each child, using their favorite color out of the rug? You didn't include a photo of the rug but obviously, I would attempt to coordinate all the shades/tones.
These are merely guesses off the top of my head - without a photo. All, JMHO.
Welcome. Gender neutrals present in your rug are, as others pointed out, yellow, silver/gray (and brown). One of these should work factoring in furniture coloration, flooring, trim and lighting. Remember, you can opt to go lighter in value in any of these colors, as inspired by the rug, once the family of the color is established viewing chips in the room's lighting.
Also, you can still feature blue and pink on their respective sides if you go w/ a gray or brown on the walls w/o being garish. In addition, neutral walls will offer greater scheme flexibility as they mature.
