I'm getting ready to start on my baby's nursery (our arrival should be here early December) and I'm not sure what color to paint the room. We will not find out boy/girl until delivery, so that means this won't be an easy pink or blue decision. Here's a link that will show you the set I picked out. Any suggestions would be great! (I posted this on the "Faux Finishing & Painting" board and got nothing. I would love for ANYONE to lend an opinion!)

Your link doesn't work... Frown

But this one will:

Little Patriot Baby

I'm sure the red is much more vibrant? What color flooring do you have?

I could definitely see a buttery yellow with maybe some nice deep red or navy painted furniture.

Also a tan would work. Lots of honey-colored wood furniture.

Any of the fun painting techniques might actually come across as being too busy with the graphic stars and stripes. One thing you could do would be to paint a pseudo-wainscotting around the room. I like to flip the proportions...instead of bottom one-third/top two-thirds...bottom two-thirds and top one-third. Actually, bottom 3/4s and top 1/4 is a better proportion. Then I would probably paint the bottom the lovely buttery yellow and the ceiling a soft very light sky blue. Very light. Not a bright sky blue. Then have a white molding separating the two colors. White molding or a white shelf -- a wide 8" band of white board with a shelf board on top. Or the red of the furniture. Good place for storybooks and stuffed animals to get them off the floor.

You can never have enough storage in a kids' room. Matt & Shari did this in some rooms, I think. Let me see if I can find the link...

Not a good pic but you can see the effect:

Shelf

And this site has a lot of great rooms for inspiration including this link:

15 nurseries

Love the "Organic and stylish" under the 15 Nurseries category. My neice did the red, white and blue - and got tired of it fast.

Thank you for your working links Smile
I'm still quite a novice to these boards, but boy, do I need help!

I really like the flipping of proportions and after seeing the 15 nurseries, that seems to be the way people are going as well.

More info: my floors and trim are dark wood as is the rest of the house, so we don't want to change that. The crib and changing table/dresser are oak (they were passed down from family so I'm keeping them).

There is some beige in the stars and I thought about that as one of the colors. I don't know about yellow. Though I love it, it's also the color in my kitchen. Does that seem redundant?

I don't think I can do a shelf all around the room b/c there are windows that chop up the room. I would like to do it on one wall, but my question is this: How in the world do they get a straight line horizontally? I would screw that up easily!

No, beige will definitely work -- I said tan but that's just a bit browner beige.

To get a straight horizontal line, get a level at the home improvement store. They definitely come in handy. When the bubble is right in the middle, the level is straight. Lightly pencil the line and then tape it off slightly on the low side of the line so that the pencil marks will get painted over. The level also works vertically, if you ever want to do vertical stripes.

Or you could go the high tech way and get one of the new laser levels which are great for hanging pics and other stuff. Some will even project the beam around a corner.
