I finally got a chance to remodel my home, first stop, the living-room. I'm thinking about painting the walls a light gray, maybe Sherwin Williams-Silver Pointe, Rhinestone, or On the Rocks, with crown molding around the top. Floor are to be replaced with cherry wood. I have to keep the sofa, but the chairs will be replaced with matching recliners; I want low-leg that look more like regular chairs, not bulky. I'm thinking maybe a blue or beige. Draperies will be a light color to bring in natural light. Table lamps with clear glass base along with white or beige shades, along with a different (maybe darker base). The ceiling fan will replaced with a chandelier (haven't decided, any suggestions?) The wall with the TV, will have an wall entertainment center. The rug (haven't found it yet) The room is only 18'x 15'. I'm enclosing pictures of the before room to get an general idea of what I'm working with. So please tell me, am I going in the right direction or heading for a disaster?

Welcome to the boards, Zoe'smom!

Unfortunately, the photo you posted's far too small to work with. Can't see anything.

The room sounds terrific. You mentioned the rug last in your post but that (or fabrics or another inspiration) might be something to select first. That way, you could select an accent color (or two, if you like) and color match paint and other items.

Because reupholstery is usually very expensive, I would consider using a neutral color on the chairs. Chandelier, so this is a formal room? Your design style? Will wait for the photos -

Good Luck!

I could not post pictures larger. Still trying to figure out how to post more pictures. I'm thinking the rug should have colors of grey, blue, brown, beige. The light will not be formal. I want the room to feel comfortable, for it's where my husband and I watch TV, entertain family and guest.

You know how to access your Personal Zone, correct?

Depending on the shade, some blues may be considered neutral. Combining grey, brown and beige makes me believe you need an accent or two.

If it were my room, I would take samples from everything selected so far, e.g. upholstery choices, floor and rug (if applicable) to the fabric store to select a pattern with an accent color or two. After you've selected both the rug and fabrics, you can easily match and/or coordinate the paint colors for a cohesive look.

Much easier, IMHO, to work that direction than backwards from paint. Good luck -

In reading your post (and being a huge grey lover), I started to picture your walls in a light grey and upholstery in a light beige. Seems to me that one would wash the other color out -- they're too close.
However, you might want to consider MEDIUM colored grey walls (taupe) with pale beige.
I think the room would be absolutely stunning.
What I am trying to say is that a taupe color on the wall and pale beige furniture would seem very complimentary to the eye (at least my eye).
Sounds like the beginnings of a great looking room.
