I'm going to be painting my sister's kitchen and this is what I have to work with: tile on floor is dark blue, cabinets are a bluish gray with a lighter color bluish gray trim. I'm thinking of a very light gray for the walls and an accent color of some shade of orange-red. What do you think? Any other suggestions for accent color?

What colors are present in adjoining public spaces? There should be a degree of scheme flow. scheme inspiration can come via papers, fabrics, tiles, countertops too. Keep contrast in mind and view all potential chips in the room's lighting conditions.

IMHO, your sis' opinion is far more important than MHO. If you collect a tile sample and any other samples/paint chips, you s/b able to select the appropriate shade/tone of any color she'd like to coordinate with the neutral grey and blue.

If she painted the adjoining hallways/rooms, I would ask her for those paint chips, too. The paint store personnel can help you coordinate both the kitchen and the flow between the spaces/rooms. (They can also color match, if multiple or unknown brands were used.)

BTW, you can often easily locate workable accent shades on their websites, e.g. BM.

JMHO and good luck -

I picture an ivory with a warm yellow/orange tint as the pop of color rather than orange/red.
Just my 2 cents.
