We have the attached Hotel Collection bed set for our master bedroom. We have been struggling to pick a complementary wall color for this set. We love gray, but have been unsuccessful in choosing a gray that compliments the set. Maybe gray is not the answer, maybe another complimentary color? Any suggestions? I like Sherwin Williams paint so something in their catalog would be best.

Welcome. Well...the site pic may produce the answer right under your nose...chocolate brown (at least on the focal wall and assuming the furniture isn't the same coloration). Dark browns lend themselves well to contemporary furnishings and are also neutrals. If your furniture is already an espresso, then this option may not be a good one unless perhaps you paint a block print or wide horizontal bands of varigated browns or brown and gray behind your bed as contrast to furnishings is important.


If you don't like the idea of dk. brown walls or a pattern I suggested, consider other accent colors that team with gray in your hue value such as turquoise, navy, a warm green, deep earthy reds, rich corals or oranges, a shade in the purple family, and even BLACK. BTW, a bold, overscale black and gray houndstooth or diamond print would look dramatic as the bed's backdrop. Factor too the feel you seek.

Frequently, it's recommended that you find an inspirational print w/ which to draw scheme from. In your case it could be an area rug, window treatment, pillows, side chair or art.


BTW, if you take a sham or pillow with you to SW, can't they custom blend a gray in a deeper value (such as charcoal) that will work well with your bedding? Even so, do consider the room's lighting and contrast/complimentary to furnishings, flooring and trim.

Had almost the same ideas as Froo, Design Me. One thing, however, I thought the site pic had a chocolate headboard and wall color in the same tone as the bed linens.

Don't know exactly which color linens you selected but it doesn't really matter. If you're going for a serene, contemporary, monochromatic look - I had the same thought about simply carrying a pillowcase or sham to SW and having them do a color match.

Another suggestion: you might consider going a little lighter on the walls - again for a restful look - perhaps a light grey or light silvery grey. If it's too difficult to find the right color from small paint chips and/or you don't care to purchase and try out multiple paint samples, you could carry the pillowcase/sham to a fabric store and select the proper shade from their grey solids and then ask SW to color match from a fabric sample. If your linens are more of a taupe, it s/b either brown-hued or grey-hued so you can pick up on lighter shades of either one of those base tones for the walls.

Had the same thoughts about various accent colors. B/c your linens are neutral, you can select virtually any accent color(s). So, again, to keep the bedroom serene, you could select a soft, lighter shade of your accent color for the walls.

Alternatively, you might consider using your selected neutral (either the same as the linens or softer) on 3 walls but painting the accent color in a bold, vivid, darker tone as an accent wall behind the bed. In both of these cases, you can repeat the accent color in either bold or soft shades for pillows, drapery, other fabrics, etc.

Agree that you may want to select a rug, print fabric, artwork or other item as a foundation or inspiration piece for the room and then pick up your various colors from that. It's far easier to color match the paint than to attempt the reverse, if you paint first.

As you do your shopping, it'd be a good idea to carry samples of everything possible from the room, i.e. not only the bed linens but flooring, drapery, chair fabrics and/or wood tones - whatever possible - or even photos as a reminder.

Being that grey is also a passion of mine and my own MB is grey with silver carpet, I had a little bit of a different spin from some of the others.
I thought that your answer sat right on the night table.
The aubergine/purple flowers with the green stems in the glass vase echo my accessory colors.
All walls are light grey but the headboard wall, which sports an aubergine color.
In another corner is a soft mint upholstered chair and hassock.
Night tables and bureau are white.
Accessories on a glass-top aubergine skirted table and throw pillows of purple and soft sage green dominate.
Just another picture for you to consider.
