I put new hardwood flooring in my living room. The color of the flooring is golden oak. The problem is that the stairs and the fireplace have a darker wood that does not match. I am thinking about painting the stairs and the fireplace white. Is this a good idea? Especially if I want to sell my house in the near future?

My answer would be possibly, hgtvfan4. White trim is currently fairly standard - especially for resale.

I'd love to see several photos of your room, however, to consider the complete color palette and the exact items/area you're thinking about painting.

Have a feeling you'll receive many responses here on the boards, if you return with photos.

JMHO.

Good Luck!
