My house has light gray siding and a deep charcoal (almost black) hip roof. What color would you suggest for the door and shutters?

Unless you're selling the house soon, I'd say there are no rules.

Probably the safest choice (IMHO) would be to use a darker grey on the shutters - somewhere inbetween the base and roof colors. To highlight the front door area and direct visitors there, a burgundy would certainly work well.

OTOH, with your grey base, you can use pretty much anything. Some version of navy on the shutters plus the burgundy door?? Forest green on the shutters??

Even though many are still doing red shades for the front door, that's certainly not required either. I would, however, use a different color on the door in the most vivid shade to highlight that area.

In summary, the answer's whatever you like, IMHO. Best of luck!

P.S. If you add photos to your post, you'll probably receive tons of responses.
