My husband and I just bought our first condo and I have figured out how to decorate the babies room but can't figure out what to do with ours. I have a steel black canopy bed which I want to put on red sheets & pillowcases and I have an ivory blanket and also want to drape ivory sheer from canopy bed (which im also not sure how to do). My question is what color should I paint the walls? I love red but don't want to overpower the room. The whole right side of room is wall to wall closets (his and hers) and the other side is 2 tiny windows (should i hang curtains to floor to make windows look bigger?) Also I have to put my L shaped desk on that side of room. So if you could help with any of these questions...What color to paint room? How to hang sheer from canopy bed? and do i hang curtains to floor to make the tiny windows look bigger? Thanks!
Hi, welcome to the boards! I have a few questions...Do you mean it's steel black or it's black and made of steel which sounds very contemporary. I think if you got ivory sheers that have button-on tabs, you could just button them over the rails. Then let them just hang straight or you could drape them to the sides and tie them back with simple loops or even tassels -- though tassels sound too ornate for a contemporary steel bed.
I would probably just pick up the red in throw pillows and maybe an area rug. Something like this might be fun:
Now, as far as colors go, red is almost a neutral, it's so versatile. You can go with soft neutrals for a more tranquil look -- both beige/tan/cream or light grays (warm or cool). I think deep red looks smashing with a cool purpley- or greenish-blue. It works with other warm colors from yellow to orange. Yellow/blue/red is one of the great color schemes in the world. It looks gorgeous against deep chocolate browns. Or Charcoal grays. And, of course, black and white. Lots of ways to go...

How would you feel about painting that humongous desk? If it was a dark iron/blackish color like your bed, this would be so much easier...
And your bed is more feminine than I was thinking but I still think button-tab curtains on the two sides (and drawn back) would be one way to drape it.
Nooooo..Carpet is going...not sure what color yet but im sure i will keep it a beige or brown color. because that room and my daughters room will be carpet.
Hmmm painting the desk...I dunno I might screw that up and ruin it haha
It's just that the big ol' oaky-looking desk and the lovely delicate bedframe just don't work with each other. Painting the desk white would help a bunch. Plus that oak color is so limiting with your wall colors...I'd go for a very light beige or oatmeal-colored carpet. Easy to decorate around. With the new stain-repellents...
I didn't notice the top was black -- I considered black for the entire piece which would make it match the bed. But it would be very heavy looking. I thought white would be lighter. ummm. visual-weight-wise.

cubicles are a sore spot with us at work. They moved us to a new building with them and we're all miserable, even listening to headphones all day. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em.
However, we do look like a bunch of meerkats whenever there's a problem with the network. Little heads pop up over the barriers.
sorry, I don't think the room looks big enough to make any partition without looking closed in. I would position the desk as far away from the bed as possible. It is very bad feng shui to have work places in your bedroom. (course they also don't approve of open shelving either because the spines of books are "poison arrows" and I have books everywhere. )
