I am sitting here almost in tears because I am just completely lost! I have been trying to decide on colors for my living room, dining room and kitchen (which all share walls) for three weeks now and I just can't do it! My living room and dining room share a large wall, and my dining room and kitchen share a wall also. Right now, my house is tan/brown. ALL of it is! I need COLOR! I just can't seem to find one that will go with the light floors, dark furniture and that will look good in all three rooms! The only help my DH has been was to say "No pinks or purples". PLEASE HELP ME! I cannot stand this lack of color any longer!
I subscribed to Behr's Paint Your Place but I am still having so much trouble!
I have never painted/decorated a house before and I just want it to look nice.
Here are a few pictures of what I am working with:

I know I am going to have to buy new rugs and window treatments but my DH says I have to paint first...

ok, from what I am seeing in the three pictures you posted looks to be the front door coming in that goes back to what appears to be the hallway.

I can see around where the tv sets and looks like the wallcontinues????, but this is where I am at a lost.

I see a separate wall where the clock is hanging on the wall.

Do you have any more pictures you can share where the wall continues on around past the tv and high chair.??

The wall that goes up at an angle when you come in the door (the wall space above the opening to the hallway), does it lead around to the wall where the clock is hanging?

You really have a nice pallate to work with as far as bringing in some color.

May not be able to really use more than one color on those long continuous walls, but definitely can bring in some color.

What kind of window treatments are you thinking about using???? and are they going into the living room?

What colors do you like or are drawn to, because you could use just about anything?

    What color are your cabinets??

Have you been looking at rugs??? Where will they go???

One thing right off the bat you could do is add some splashes of color in pillows for your sofas.

Also, do you have any kind of artwork to hang on the walls?

You mentioned you have not painted before. Is this correct and if so , are you the one going to be painting?

What paint brand are you interested in using?

By the way, beautiful little one there.

These should get you started .

OK... I updated my pictures and included more.

I have no artwork or anything yet.

I have looked at rugs thinking I would at least put one under the DR table but haven't purchased any since I haven't decided on the rest.

I was also planning on purchasing the window treatments for the LR and DR.

Colors I was thinking of... yellow, gold, green, blue, red.... see, I love all colors. I just need something not so bland...

Why don't you go shopping for a rug for under the DR table.
Find one that you love... the reason you love it will be because of the colour, pattern, texture, etc.
Then use that as your starting off point.

here is a little something that might give you an idea.

As far as dividing up color on the walls in order to separte the different rooms, JMHO with all those continuous walls, I would keep the same continuity throughout your space.

With the drawing, I have included showing where you could paint out the top half above the cabinets (the soffit) on the dining room side and down the small side panel. For the wall going around the corner where the artwork is, if this is a separate wall which leads down the hallway, you could use a lighter version of your main color throughout the space.

Inside the kitchen that wall is still a continuation of the side wall in the dining room and I would keep the same color flow.

Other than that suggestion, one more option would be to paint that one back wall there in the dining room where the closed door is and run that color along the same wall as in the kitchen, above the cabinet area and down the small side strip.

Yeah, it is sometimes hard to divide colors when there isn't a definite break, but you could certainly paint the walls a color you could be happy with.

the picture just shows a green and then a ligher version of the green running down the side hallway wall, with a rusty copper orange above the cabinets and down the side strip.

i actually like the color you have now? tho it looks like a light gray rather than tan/brown?

i think if you bring in some accent colors and art work, it'd give the rooms some colors.
