...have you ever received a gift and thought "that will be perrrrfect for (name) next year"!

I feel so bad, but I can't help what I thought...

LOL,nope.But I might now.Well to think about it,DH Dad last year gave us an old timey popcorn metal pot w/stir handle thingy.I still have it & in box.LOL...let me see who I can give this too.We all know we all use microwave popcorn,easlier and cheaper.

One thing for sure in my family is we know each other well or ask for a few clues.I tend to read people well and give something dear & near to them.I should really be a professional shopper.

Quite frankly, I have been opposed to the "present" aspect of Christmas for a long time now and have finally persuaded others in both my family and DH's family over to my way of thinking ~ we now mostly do gifts only for the younger generation ~ those under the age of 18.

For myself, I simply do not need or want any more items (unless it is something I specifically want to acquire) as I don't need any more clutter in my home ~ I'm trying to get rid of excess, not add to it!

So, yes, when I do receive a gift, I thank the person appropriately in person or by a hand-written note and then immediately try to figure out who else might enjoy it! I do make sure that any re-gifting will never be known by the original giver, however, as I would never want to hurt their feelings....

About the only thing I regift is scented stuff...body and bath type stuff and candles. Fragrance is a personal thing. If I wanted to smell like fruit or plumeria, I'd buy it myself. My skin doesn't tolerate just anything so the plainer the better. Certain soaps/body washes really do a bad trick on me.

When DS was in school, I put all the lotions and potions in the hall closet. When he needed a gift for a girl's birthday/Christmas/etc., he would go shopping in that closet. Now, I just pass them around to friends...BFFs and family know that I don't use that stuff. I gave all my scented candles to my mother while she was living...now to BFF.

I just bought one of those popcorn poppers earlier this year. It is MUCH cheaper to pop in it and you don't get all the chemicals they put into microwave popcorn.
I LOVE my turning handle popper! Popcorn is done in about 3 min. if you preheat before putting the corn in...not long at all.
AND, I buy my popcorn in bulk..24-48 lbs. at a time.
I LOVE popcorn!...but only white...another reason not to use microwave, it's all yellow.

I really feel guilty about regifting. I usually just give it to a charity, that way someone else can use it. If it's really something not worth donating, I usually just throw it away.

Nothing wrong with regifting. Just be careful. Make sure you don't give it back to who gave it to you, or to anyone that they might see get it!

I have a challenge for you: my DH; he is impossible to shop for because he likes nothing!!! orrrr if he does, he buys it himself off the Net. Seriously!!! One year I decided to buy 'special foods' like specialty sausages/cheeses, etc. from a gourmet shop; nope, he didn't dig that so much either...too 'uppity' for him...ha!!!!!!!!!!! orrr he decides he's on a diet now.

Also, he may 'like' something, but he just can't justify the expense...OMGeee!

I've bought war movies he says he interested in(he won't watch), books (he won't read), CD's he never gets around to listening to...clothes he won't wear...video camera he wouldn't use, CD player he wouldn't use, Cuisinart he used maybe twice...and an exact billfold replica of his tattered on (it's still in the box) WISH I had the money back!!!!!

I don't see anything wrong with re-gifting altho seldom do it as I'm not difficult to buy for and usually like anything I get.

One gift I received this year caused me to immediately wonder who I could give it to tho! I gave it away altho not as a gift. It's something I don't need, don't want, and I gave it to someone from out of town so the giver will never know.

Last year I told everyone that I'd joined the ranks of the greedy and self-centered and created a wish list on Amazon. I got nothing to regift!

This year - oh my goodness! StepS and his wife gave me two pure luxury items that I will cherish forever. One was a "Ha-ha. While I would love to have this -an Oberon purse $*$*$* I know it's a dream...but do look at 'this' wallet $*$*..." They gave me the wallet! I nearly cried.

I put one item DH had mentioned on my list...they gave him that. So he got one thing he truly wanted. I may not buy him anything next year...

I re-gift ALL the time!!!

I get gifts (Birthday and Christmas) from people at work, from my BFFs and from people who attend my Church.

It's great that their paths never cross, so it makes it very easy for me to re-gift among them from time-to-time.

I don't think it's rude at all - It's just a way to "pay-it-forward" in my humble opinion. (Wink, wink)

not me, lol..my kids gave up ages ago, trying o get me anything but gc's and i use them for me! (avid book reader)must admit i was was looking around the other night, but not a thing was in sight! (dd's mil was at our christmas) and any of thiings i have in boxes would have been seen by the people who gave them...we've all pared back on stuff that's not going to be used or passed down (kids clothes go fast, with 9 grands)

actually i wouldn't mind at all to be on the receiving end...lol

Seriously! That happened to me once. I opened a birthday gift from a friend, and it was something I had given her the year before. I didn't want to embarrass her so I didn't say anything, but I thought it was hysterical!

Sherry!!! Which wallet did you get, girl??? I drool over those things, too. I looked at the Kindle covers, but the "frugal" part of me just wouldn't spring for it. Good for you, though!!

No issue with regifting current items either.
I just never would put an item in a box from another store. It is very embarrassing, in case someone tries to return/exchange the item....and it did not come from that store.

Conrad, you are so correct about store boxes when regifting.

Sherry, I've drooled over that line many time. You're one lucky gal to get the wallet. I love that style of wallet.

The only problem is that they don't make all the other things in this design...purse, cell phone case, Kindle cover, etc. So I'll have to decide which other designs will look best with it.

Regifting can be risky in some instances if down the line one family member recognizes that their gift is something they recall another friend or family member gifted to you some time ago or worse yet...they gave it to you some time ago. To lessen the chance of this happening it may be wise to note the giver's name on said gift. Better yet, donate the gift and you'll not only avoid this occurrence but will feel good knowing someone will appreciate it. Just don't opt to toss the gift in the garbage. BTW, it's frequently advised to hang onto a nonperishable gift for at least a year (assuming you have the space). Also, one should always acknowledge the gift no matter what. It is also wise to include a gift receipt with each gift unless it is homemade.

I just had to comment on the popcorn popper too. I love mine and it makes the best popcorn. White only - no yellow. I'm actually on my second popper - wore the first one out. LOL

Three cheers for the old fashioned popcorn poppers with turn handles! I have one too, and love it! It is the only way to get really good homemade kettle corn. And there is nothing better than the taste of fresh home popped pop corn, with real butter. Yum!
