I have a long narrow living room. Kitchen opening and built in entertainment center at one end. At the other end is the door for the much used basement. Right now there is a couch on one side and 2 chairs across. It looks nice, but only good entertainment viewing from one chair. I'm wanting to rearrange the room for better viewing of the entertainment center without blocking the door to the basement. Any ideas?

Modular sectional sofa might be a good solution, at list it solved my, similar problem. Look at this http://www.modern1furniture.co...-leather-p-5465.html example. Usually available in all styles but mostly modern or contemporary.

have you considered swivel chairs .I have them in my living room this way I can turn them to the fireplace or to the wall unit with the tv and also if I have company i can turn them to chat .
