I was reading my Dollar Stretcher e-magazine and this was in it. I've never heard of this before? wondered if anyone here had??

Organic Garden Pest Control

Here's an inexpensive, organic way to rid a garden of pests.
Put about half of a cup tobacco into a gallon container and
add water to almost full. Place this mixture in full sun to
make tobacco tea. When the tea has had a few days of good
heat, add a few drops of dish detergent and four or five drops
of hot pepper sauce. Shake. Pour the "tea mixture" into a
spray bottle and spray your garden plants to keep away ants,
cutworms, tomato worms, etc. Leave the solution in the sun to
keep it brewing and use as required throughout the planting
season. The tea also will kill pests in the house.
Unfortunately, this concoction will also kill friendly garden
insects and is dissipated after a rain. This method takes some
work but is pet and human friendly.

Probably not a good idea if it kills friendly garden insects too??

That's so funny, Sorie. I just read about this the other day when I was looking to deter stink bugs. Don't think I'll try it, tho, because of it being bad for the beneficial insects, too. I'll stick with the soapy water.

Interesting! Now I want to see all you girls going into a tobacco shop and buying chewing tobacco! Pictures please!

PS - as a smoker, I can tell you that nothing containing tobacco is inexpensive anymore.

I won't use anything tobacco related in the garden for fear of the mosaic virus from it.... besides... this sounds like a recipe from that creep I loathe..... I could do the hot pepper thing, but I'd have to leave out the 'baccy juice

As another smoker...I can tell you that tobacco put in water for several days STINKS!

And as Yard Man (aka Now What) said on his board, it is POSION! I wouldn't use it near humans or animals!
And just a little side note...my DH tried this for fire ants a few years back...it didn't work, they just moved over a few feet! He did it out in our woodsy area, away from the house.
