I brought in a few cuttings from my angelleaf begonia dna my wandering j e w. I put them in a glass of water and they are growing roots. It is time to pot then up and put them under grow lights. I grew the begonia from seed last winter. They were slow to germinate and I got a late start but they bloomed like c r a z y last summer.

I used to do a lot of cuttings but now do as little indoor gardening as possible (usually none) as like to be free to travel. I plan to take slips of my Walker's Low catmint in the spring as did that before and got a lot of new plants. I want to use it as a border plant throughout my garden so can use almost unlimited amounts. I just put them in good container soil in pots and tried to remember to water them frequently. Despite letting them dry out many times most survived. I might root half in water this time, might be easier.

Do you have a pic of your angel leaf begonia? Love to see it.

I brought in purple and green sweet potato vine. They have lots of roots too. Also brought in Lantana but it's in a pot.

I brought in the two mandavillas and a gerber daisy. The daisy looks sick, the mandavillas are climbing the sun room walls already, and I cut them back severely. Sure wish they were winter hardy here...such a pain!

I brought in the exact same plants as you, Vera. This will be the 2nd winter I'm overwintering them indoors. At one point last year, my gerbera daisy had no more than 3 green leaves. But it came back beautifully this summer so it was worth it. Funny thing, the mandevilla is the 'shrub' type, but since bringing it in, it has produced vine shoots everywhere! Another one I took a cutting from was my angel trumpet. That is doing very well!

Shook, funny about the gerbers. A friend posted pictures of hers on facebook and they are blooming like crazy! We must be doing something very wrong!

I did not know there were shrub type mandavillas. Good luck with yours....since they are vining now, maybe you will have vines next summer. I'm thinking of pruning mine again.

I took some cuttings of my brugmansia, aka angel trumpet, but they don't look good. Think I'm going to pitch them & take more cuttings in the spring after they leaf out.

Vera, I cut 5 flowers off of the gerbera last week, but the greens look pretty pathetic. Weird!

Last year I brought in geraniums and they really looked sick by spring. I cut them back and sat them outside and they grew like crazy and bloomed like crazy. At least 18 blooms on one plant. Sadly, I did not bring any inside this year. They still have not been hit by frost yet. The only plant that is still living here.

I bring in lots of stuff to overwinter. But, I have never been able to get Gerberas to live.....never. What is the trick?

Until this one plant, I never had luck with Gerberas at all, summertime or otherwise. This was my first plant that survived the summer last year, so I brought it indoors. It stayed in a sunny window all winter and I watered it as I did any other houseplant. This spring I put it outside and it bloomed prolifically, so here it is a winter later and I'm trying it again. I have to give credit to the plant, and not myself, as it is the only one I could ever keep alive.

Wonderful. Survival of the fittest. Maybe next year I will bring in more plants as I will be retired.

Imagine my surprise this morning as I was doing the weekly watering to see green leaves sprouting on the dead gerber! There may be hope for me (and the gerber) yet! Yay!

Good for you and the Gerbera. My wandering j e w and begonia cutting have roots on them. Cannot wait until I have time to put them in soil.
