My area has started recycling boxes so I have been collecting all my food boxes that I accumlate, like cereal and pizza boxes and been taking them to be recycled..Then it hit me!!These boxes would make the best weedblock!

So try this the next time as it will help our land fills and save some money!!

I'd go along with you on this if the boxes were not printed with that shiny inky stuff.... whether it's non-toxic or not isn't all the problem, but that it's not good at letting water seep thru..... if there's enough places where the water can run 'past' the cardboard to get to the soil, then that's dandy..... but those are places where weeds can sneak thru, too.... reason I say this is that I used lots of cardboard, the big heavy stuff that they pack Dewalt stuff in....it's yellow on one side...the cardboard side was down, the yellow up and the plants on the edges did ok.... those that were in the spots where I'd cut holes in the large sheet of cardboard,not so good.... they were starved for water!!....so I cut a bigger hole.... and got weeds!!....rats!!....

to me, it's the same as not putting that shiny paper advertising sheet of paper into the compost... we just don't know who uses the bad inks.....

I used carboard as weedblock for the firts time this year. I loved the results. Most of the cardboard I used was from a hospital. It was just plain cardboard. It worked pretty good and I definitely will do it again next year.
