The Rose Parade will be held on Tuesday. As usual, HGTV will broadcast it so we can look forard to seeing all of the floats and hearing a fairly good description of which flowers were used where.
Anyone else planning to watch?

I will be watching at home although I am about 35 minutes from Pasadena. I am NOT tempted to go early for a spot and freeze instead of watching warm & toasty from home!

Summers are just this side of hell, but you don't have to shovel sunshine...

I agree, KG. Just hoping it doesn't rain.
I've been to a few large parades, but the older I get, the less the idea appeals to me.

I usually watch at least part of it. Depends on what else is going on at the time.

Who's hosting it this year? The last time I saw it and enjoyed someone who knows plants, was when Paul James hosted it and that's been awhile.

I'm hunting around for some answers.
The theme is "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
The Grand Marshal is Dr. Jane Goodall.

Here's a link to the event site. There's a FAQ section there.

I usually watch some of it...after awhile it gets pretty boring. Sorry.

I do like the theme and to have Dr. Jane Goodall for Grand Marshall is neat and appropriate. I wonder how old she is now.

The first year we lived in southern California we went to the parade and I probably took a picture of every float that passed by! I'll be watching it on tv for sure. In fact, the DVR is programmed to record both the HGTV channel and the RFDTV channel!

Jane Goodall is an amazing woman.
She came into our art gallery a couple of years ago, as she was in town speaking at the University. She still travels around the world, raising money for the chimps and other wildlife.

She looks amazing in person too, as she will be 79 this April 3!

I might take a peek at her on the Rose Parade, but big TV parades are just too long and boring to sit through (for me). Give me a small town, local parade that lasts 20-30 minutes with home-made floats on cars and pickups, local bands and friends and neighbors you recognize. And I will certainly watch and enjoy!

i love the floats part of the parade but got so frustrated with all the mega extravaganza staged entertainment in the Thanksgiving one that i did not watch it. that is NOT what this old gal watches parades for.

but i will watch this one for Jane. she is my hero. i'll just keep the remote handy for the non-parade parts.

I agree!! I will probably watch a little of it, cause as usual, I will be the only one up for a while. I get to eat the leftover chips and dip with my coffee! Yummy
I think I must have the attention span of a child or cat. I have never gone to the Thanksgiving Day Parade in my life. (lived in NYC) I always watched some of it on TV, and then get bored.... Shhh.
I LOVE JANE GOODALL!!!! I've been watching her and her chimps since she and I were young. She was very PRETTY I always thought, considering she was always out there in the forest with chimps and no makeup and other accoutrements..... Cool

I heard a report on NPR this morning that Dr. Goodall will be holding an adoptable dog while on parade duty. How cool is that?!

Always watch the Rose Parade on HGTV...no commercials. Just beautiful.

I'm not a fan of the Thanksgiving Parade either. Balloons and production numbers aren't for me. Big Grin

Love the rabbit made of cotton.
The costumes on the Korean marching band are amazing.
Did anyone see Jane Goodall? She looks great!

Had it on for about 15 minutes in the kitchen. Did not see Jane G, darn.
Turned it off, and instead opted to sweep, blow the light overnight covering of snow from the concrete. It is up to 13 degrees and the sun is out, yeah.
The dogs were making snow angels (or snow sausages) on the driveway.Big Grin

She looked so serene, so elegant. She waved as she sat in the back of a gorgeous vehicle and was clutching a stuffed chimp.

That is good Ricearoni, she certainly seems a class act.

I admit I am not a televised parade watcher, and what little I did see, was not encouraged to watch more. Thought the hosts were trying to be a bit "too entertaining" with dumb comments, and from the other thread about the parade, I see I am not alone.

On with the new year! Hope all have a great day.

I watched the parade, but I didn't like the commentary this year...too much silly chatter and not enough descriptions of what the floats were made of. Being a florist, that's what interests me the most. Instead of having the imbedded comments from the doofus on the street, they could have been describing the floats. Wink

I agree mgt. My Dad was a florist, so you and I both were hoping for the same type of commentary. It's so hard to see what materials are used from the telecast. I wish the narration of the fellows in the booth had emphasized that, instead of thinking they had to entertain us.

The RFDTV hosts described the float materials and did a real nice job. I switched between it & the hGTV channels, but mostly stayed with the former.

My RFD channel was off air today, so sad I missed the commentary on there.
