While out watering, I saw something scurry under a bush. It was the size of a large plump mouse.

And I'm seeing 2" holes in my beds around the yard. Are these his home and what's he doing under there? Smile

I would like to take this time to expound on the benefits of moles. They airate the soil and they eat grubs and sometimes earthworms. I don't have a problem with them. In fact, I have a dog who kills them, but will not eat them. VOLES are similar to moles, they travel in the same tunnels, but there the similarity ends. Voles will eat the roots of plants and quite literally destroy your landscape plants.
I live out in rural Mississippi and really don't care if there are tunnels in my lawn. As long as I can keep the lawn mowed and it looks presentable, I'm okay with moles not VOLES.

Sounds too small to be a mole. More likely voles, which are trouble too.

Voles=field mouse. At least they're that similar. They're much alike.

voles or shrews also have eyes which a mole does not.

yep, it looks like what I saw for a split second running under a shrub. And the holes are similar. they are around the yard in different places. Do you think I just have the one? or more? since there are a number of these holes. I've seen at least 5.

Would they get up into my planter on the porch and eat the leaves of the geraniums? Also, the flowers of my lilies are gone with just the tips remaining. Do they like moisture? It seems where I find the holes, it's a lil damp.

How do I chase this critter away before he eats too much? Smile
