LOL! I couldn't help it I swear...I saw these at Walmart of all places. Got four, now I just need to find the right place for them.

These darn things are as big around as my head...and I got a big head! Razz They must be 3lbs a piece.

Anyone else have these plants...they say 4-8 hours of sun but I'm guessing down here morning sun would be more like it.

Good grief - yep, you need intervention for sure!!! So how many pots does this make? Big Grin

Don't think I've ever seen Kalanchoe that big......bold and beautiful. The most you see here are the kind that Jan C. was talking about.

Yep, VE is right you need intervention! And I've never seen anything like those either. My Walmart doesn't have them...I just went thru their plants yesterday here.
Are you going to plant them in the ground? I've done that with the smaller ones a couple of times...but had too much sun on them. But they did live for several months & bloomed.

I found this pic on google, this is what they are supposed to look like when they bloom. I hope I can get to this before next winter.

Oh my gosh, I love them!! Succulents are just so interesting, aren't they?

3DLady, are you looking at this? (She is also a huge succulent-lover!)

Can't wait to see how you use them,

Good heavens they are positively huge! Like succulents on steroids. The ones up here are houseplants in 4 inch pots.

the potted one is what we have here....man those in the picture blooming are gorgeous. Maybe they don't get that big up here, need a tropical climate, which is why we never see them this far north.

Beautiful and SCORE on the buy.

Thanks! I just started growing Kalanchoe last year. When I realized that all you have to do is break a piece off and stick it in the soil and it grows...that's a plant for me!

Wow, am I impressed! Guess you must need the tropical weather to make them grow. I've never seen one so large, even in greenhouses up here.

Well, I did make sure they were put in the garage when it got below 40 degrees. (DH just loves lugging big pots around) Razz
Added some Osmocote when I had to put them in a bigger pot and half day of sun and not too much watering.

And purslane is invasive here!..and there are several that grow wild!

Z9, those are fantastic in the pic of the blooming! Love it! Your other pot is gorgeous too...I've never had one get THAT big!
But now I know what I'm going to look for to put in that one empty pot on the front porch...the one that the pineapple got frozen in!

Karen, we do have a purslane that grows wild here...I don't even know if it flowers, but it's definitely a weed. I wonder if we're talking about the same plant? I could see, though, if you don't have freezing temps, how the "good" one could get out of hand! Eek Smile

I love purslane too...ever since I planted it 2 or 3 years ago it comes back every year. They put out so many seeds and it seems like they all germinate. I've replaced plants in certain containers but the purslane seedlings keep popping up every year.
I do have the wild purslane growing all over the property..the flowers open at night and are beautiful.

Here is the other color purslane..I've since replaced them with Chocolate Chip Ajuga but the seedings are coming through. I think this color will look great with the purple.

I also bought some seeds for double moss rose...shouldn't they grow about the same?

I broke off a stem and stuck it in a huge rock with a hole in it, added a little soil and it grew!

Hmmmm...the wild purslane never blooms in my yard, certainly not pretty like yours. This must be a completely different variety!
The one we see looks like jade plant and is edible and healthy in salads or cooked. Now they even sell seeds for the common green and a new golden variety to EAT!
I just looked it up again, and it's the SAME variety you have in the pot...SALAD anyone?
http://www.sandmountainherbs.c...ane_golden_leaf.html
http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-5...golden-purslane.aspx

Now that I know I can eat it, I don't see it in my yard anymore...how funny!

Just tons of Wild Garlic. I know that you can eat that too, but I just have NO desire! Just like the dandelions.

That looks great, Z9! I just love how you can have several different colors all together and it looks like it's all coming from the same plant.

Rose moss will reseed here, but purslane won't. I bet it would reseed very well for you.

Big Grin I know what you mean....we have such a variety of greens available to us, why eat the weeds in the yard?
Waaay back in the old days when people had to forage for food it was a different story.
