Hehe. Here it is January, and near 50 degrees in Wisconsin, and I was outside thinking of planting things. Of course I can't yet tho. Anyways, I am going to plant a short wall between me and my neighbor. (She's great, but we all need a little privacy.) I was leafing thru a catalog and saw a wisteria tree. Anybody know about this plant? I am in zone 5, which it said i could plant it in. I just need some advise from someone who has experience with wisteria. Also, I want to plant strawberries. I know they are invasive, so appropriate precautionary measures will have to be taken. Anybody grow strawberries?
I have what we call Wild Strawberry and it is a nightmare. Can't kill it, very hard to control. Wisteria? There are different kinds and I can't remember which one is the least invasive. Our son, had some on his property and it has taken nearly two years to get rid of it. Very invasive. Try to Google Wisteria and see what you find. Good luck.
I wanted to plant a wisteria once until I heard once it take roots there is no going back. I never knew strawberries were invasive.. they did not come back for me.
If it's what I'm thinking of, it's a wisteria plant that has been grown and shaped to resemble a small tree. They can be very expensive. To keep the tree like(5-6' height) just requires some added pruning. Wisterias do like to run, but in that form it's easy to keep controlled. I had one for several years. Then I built an arbor nearby and let it do its thing.
As for strawberry plants grown for fruit, they do not become weeds. With minimal effort they can be controlled. Most of the time in northern climates it's a guessing game of how many survived the winter!
There are only two classes - first class and no class

Southern Living had an article about Wisteria. It depends on which way the tendrils curl as to the type and one is more invasive than the other. I think the invasive one is the better bloomer. A friend has one made into a tree. Trimming is a dailey issue to keep it under control.
What we have is wild strawberry and I don't think it is edible. It just takes over everything.
