just 'injure' the stem where it will be in the soil, slightly... scratch with fingernail or on wood stems, make a shallow inch long 'scrape' with knife or pruners.... don't cut off any leaf bumps.... leave them to be the first place for roots to form... wet it... have some powder hormone out on a piece of paper... fold the paper so it's all in one spot.. roll the end of the cutting there, then tap the cutting on the edge of a table or something to make whatever can fall off, fall off.... make a hole in your soil with a pencil, stick the cutting in without rubbing off the hormone, then firm up the soil around the cutting..... have the soil moist before hand.... don't water right away.... let the moist soil get it working... water several hours later.... like do this in the morning, then water at night .. just don't let it dry out!.... the new little roots will be very tender and will die right quick if left to dry out.... yes, shade is good at first.... then, if they are sun plants, put them in PART sun, like morning sun... actually, I find that mine do best if put UNDER the plant they came from!!.... seems the light is right there!.... take enuff cuttings that if a few poop out you'll still have a chance with others.... luck to ya!!....
