What can I do to keep deer off the peach trees and out of the garden? Sign In/Join

We planted four peach trees and we can't put up tall fence so am trying to think of ways to keep the deer away from the trees and also out of the veggie garden. It is drought striken area again this year so they will be looking harder for food even though we have the alfalfa fields and TRYING to grow the field corn...they will destroy what they can wherever and I sure want to keep them away from the plants in the yard.
I wondered if I planted May Night Salvia around the peach trees if that would keep them away? Maybe it wouldn't be tall enough????
Thanks for your suggestions.

We put a fence around our newly planted tree in the pasture. Can you temporarily fence the tree? Far enough out the deer can't reach the tree but close enough that the deer can't jump the fence also.

i've heard hanging unwrapped bars of dial soap helps. we don't have deer so i can't say it works. its certainly worth a try and relatively cheap.

Spray, spray, spray. We alternate a couple of different sprays that discourage them. You can't use just one since they become accustomed to it and then it doesn't work. Just got 2 new products that are produced here in Ohio--Goodbye Deer and Restraining Order. They smell better than Liquid Fence. The idea is to start spraying early and rotate products.

Currently I'm having success with blood meal altho it needs to be reapplied especially after watering and rain. Seems to me the easiest method, is relatively inexpensive, and beneficial to the garden. The 'expert' at one of the garden centers said it's what he uses with good results.

Askl advice from your local orchard owners or operators. There is a tree net that can be thrown over small fruit trees to protect them from wildlife so you might ask at your local nursery.
Blood meal is straight nitrogen and should not be in the vicinity of fruit trees when in bud--but ask about that too from orchardmen.
I cant speak for deer but blood meal does attract my dog that likes to roll in it.
